Analysis Hawthorn rebuild: are they tanking?

What a fascinatingly absurd method of valuing players. There’s gonna be ups and downs along the way. We aren’t as good as we thought we were going into this season, but we equally aren’t as bad as the doomsdayers will have you believe. Patience is a virtue.

Welcome Welcome to Hawthorn : Calsher Dear!

Having watched him today, I think it’s important with young kids to temper expectations and not get too excited. That said, how many Coleman medals do we think he’ll win?

    Preview Round 5, 2024: Box Hill Hawks v Sydney Swans, 28 April 2024, 12.05pm @ BHCO

Swans had 17 AFL listed players in their team today. Outstanding win.

Opinion North Melbourne Priority Picks Part 2 - 2023/2024

To be clear, not judging the kids at all. I’m judging Fisher and Stephens, who were both very average footballers long before they joined North.

Opinion North Melbourne Priority Picks Part 2 - 2023/2024

Teams like Richmond are about to enter their own decline. I dare say they’d be prime candidates for a trade up (with some quality older players going the other way).
  7. Philhawk

Opinion North Melbourne Priority Picks Part 2 - 2023/2024

If I’m North, call me crazy, but I’d split pick 1 into a bag of still decent picks - and offer them around the league for quality leaders/older players.
  8. Philhawk

Opinion North Melbourne Priority Picks Part 2 - 2023/2024

Not traded them? You realize if you hadn’t traded them, going 0-23 would have likely meant those picks would have turned into beginning of first round priority picks? Now there’s no chance of that.

Opinion North Melbourne Priority Picks Part 2 - 2023/2024

No, you didn’t have to do anything? Where are you getting that from? https://www.afl.com.au/news/1041604/afl-commission-signs-off-on-north-melbourne-assistance-package/amp?webview=true
  10. Philhawk

Opinion North Melbourne Priority Picks Part 2 - 2023/2024

No, it wasn’t. The North list management team made some very stupid decisions to waste them.
  11. Philhawk

Opinion North Melbourne Priority Picks Part 2 - 2023/2024

Bullshit spin? You had priority picks gifted to you and you wasted them on garbage players, who you then rewarded with long contracts. Spin that.
  12. Philhawk

Whom would you take from Norths List?

Sheezel is a clear cut 1. He has it all. I don’t know how, but after starting on fire, Wardlaw looks progressively worse after each game. Not only that, he’s under 20 games into his career and his body already looks shot. LDU is a front runner and Larkey needs to be better at marking overhead...

Autopsy AFL 2024 Round 7 - North v Crows Sat April 27th 1:45pm AEST (Blundstone)

This isn’t even VFL level from North.
  15. Philhawk

Which team out of Adelaide, North and Hawthorn has the better youth? Part 2

Some of the Crows’ younger players looking pretty promising today. We can comfortably say it’s at least not North.
  16. Philhawk

Restricted Free Agent Cam Zurhaar [2024 RFA?]

It’s a shame because if he had performed, he would have easily attracted that $700k contract that would have rewarded North with Pick 2. At this stage he’d be lucky to get Band 2.
  17. Philhawk

Opinion North Melbourne Priority Picks Part 2 - 2023/2024

Brisbane trading for an old Hodge, WC for Sam Mitchell should be the kind of trades North need to try and emulate. It might not even be a tough sell, but a 2 year (1 to play, 1 to coach) to Pendles on decent coin might be enticing.

Opinion North Melbourne Priority Picks Part 2 - 2023/2024

Respected 30 year olds looking for a final paycheck that their current clubs aren’t keen to hand out?
  19. Philhawk

Opinion North Melbourne Priority Picks Part 2 - 2023/2024

If the rumors are true about Zurhaar and LDU, then I actually have no clue what the path forward is. For LDU, trade him for leaders. Forget picks, they’re pointless.

Coach Sam Mitchell's direction for the club and 2024 news

    Extend his contract.
  21. Philhawk

Opinion North Melbourne Priority Picks Part 2 - 2023/2024

We joke about in this thread and I never thought I’d write this, but after seeing first hand the sheer despair from North fans live at the game yesterday (particularly the younger ones), I do think they should get some help. If the Hawks or Eagles lose 26 games in a row, the sun will still...

Coach Alastair Clarkson - where is the pressure?

Possibility the understatement of the year. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a poorer group of senior players.
  23. Philhawk

Opinion North Melbourne Priority Picks Part 2 - 2023/2024

Blind Freddy can tell you they need two things. Quality experience and talls. Trade down, take best young talk in draft and trade future picks for experience. But, in typical fashion, they’ll enter the draft with pick 1 and posture for weeks about how they can’t see value to split and move...

Coach Alastair Clarkson - where is the pressure?

Starting to get major Bill Belichek vibes with him. Poor bloke is gonna rue the fact he passed up Carlton till the end.

Analysis Hawthorn rebuild: are they tanking?

All jokes aside, I do actually feel bad. You don’t mind a loss if there’s effort put in - but some of the efforts from older North players were absolutely insipid.

Analysis Hawthorn rebuild: are they tanking?

Chadwiko, still reckon North are ahead in their rebuild? Asking for a mate.
  27. Philhawk

Opinion North Melbourne Priority Picks Part 2 - 2023/2024

Comben has talent, but not matching McKay and then ignoring Curtin with one of their two top picks was simply baffling. Self inflicted pain.

Autopsy Round 6, 2024 : Hawks skittle Roos

Faded late, but positive signs. North are shite, but you take the wins where you can get them. Need to build on this.
