Re: #17: Jake Melksham - Will he ever become what we hope?
Do you think he can become a player in the style of Murphy of Carlton?
That's the kind of player we desperately need, the inside-outside midfielder that can burst away from stoppages and deliver.
Ben Reid is seriously underrated on this site.
Granted, he has a wonderful defensive structure around him that allows Collingwood's Key Defenders to not be so worried about their direct opponent; having said that, he more than makes up for that by his rebounding qualities that are not too...
There is no way that we'll be able to "do a West Coast" next year.
We simply don't have the quality of senior players like Cox, Kerr, Embley, Glass etc. to sustain an effort for the whole season.
If we get there, it'll be a slow developing phase over the next 5 years.
Re: Changes v Port (IN: Hurley, Pears, Hooker, Colyer, Dyson | OUT: Crameri, Hocking)
Expect Fletcher to be a late change on the day of the game.
Happened just before the GC game.
There is no could/should in football.
There is only whether you 'turn up' or don't 'turn up'.
If we don't 'turn up', Motlop, Pearce, Westhoff, Rodan and Boak will have a field day like they did last year.
Anyone is beatable on any given day.
Spot on SJ5.
Too many here tend to observe through red and black coloured glasses.
The explosiveness of Yarran off the HBF and when he pushed up onto the Wing, pressing hard on the Hawthorn defence in the second half, allowed Carlton to charge forward and keep the ball inside their forward 50...
Not after last Saturday's game, that's for sure.
To answer the question, Ben Reid and Alex Silvagni have been excellent this season.
Garland and Schofield, though, should be excellent third talls.
The reason why the Saints don't trouble us as much is because, Jack Steven aside, they lack the players who clear the ball with explosive pace i.e. guys like Murphy, Judd, Swan, Goodes etc.
Even Griffen and Ward were excellent last night in how they zipped around the packs, and with a slow-ish...
I think you're spot on there.
It's why Murphy and Goodes consistently get a good hold on us. Their pace and spread away from the contests is just something that we just can't match at the moment.
Disappointed, to be honest, not to have seen Jetta at stoppages more often after re-watching the...
Don't bet on it.
Only had one game this week on Foxtel in HD. What's more, they picked the Brisbane v Adelaide game as the HD match.
Disgrace, and a genuine waste of money.
If his hamstring issues have anything to do with nerves in that region, well... you can't just about write off his career-best form of earlier in the year.
Ironic isn't?
Mark McVeigh, in '08, entering into career-best form having destroyed Judd the week before, goes in against the Dogs and...
Re: Changes for Carlton thread (IN: Carlisle | Out: Hocking)
Likely they'll rely on McVeigh to go with Judd, and Howlett to do a run-with role on Murphy.
Oh boy, it's going to be a cold, cold night at the 'G on Saturday...
I just wanted to say that I've been so impressed with the way Brisbane have gone about their footy this year.
People talk about how Freo have been unlucky, the Lions have been simply ravaged by injury. To lose structural keys like Merrett and Jono Brown for long stints just leaves me...
One of my favourites.
Always insightful with his commentary and never is afraid to make a call on particular players.
Also doesn't allow his allegiance to Hawthorn to blind his commentary.
Expecting it to be over very quickly, as usual.
Expect Johncock to have a picnic across half-back, Thompson to dominate centrally, and Tippett to return to form.
The wet, dewy surface always gets us over there during night games. Looks like an ice-skating ring whenever we play them over there.
Players lose their feet, turn it over, drop marks, shank kicks off the side of the boot.
Would have payed a lot of money for this to have been a day game.
The Judd of 2006 was the the most exhilarating year you would want from a player.
Loved him as a player that year like one of my own. Was shattered when he succumbed to the OP.
He's been a consistent contributor for the Blues, but, personally, has never felt he reached the 'Superman' heights...
Re: Run home
Anyone thinks that we'll beat Port is genuinely off their face.
We could put out Hird, Mercuri, Lloyd, Hutchison and Reynolds and still get rolled by those bastards.
You watch, Megahead Ebert, Pencil Westhoff and the little bastard Pearce will tear us apart, like they've done for...
To be fair, Sydney had the umpires with them in both our game and the North game.
The umpiring in the North game was disgraceful, almost single-handedly took the game away from them.
