RECRUITING COUP FOR EAST POINT
Tuesday, 9 November 2004
Regional One Ballarat Football League emerging power East Point has signed 2004 All-Australian Amateur Ben Jordan.
The St Bernard's Old Collegians A section star was integral in Victoria securing the Australian amateur championship in Melbourne this year.
Jordan was named in a forward pocket in the All-Australian line-up.
He was one of two high profile recruits announced by an excited East Point president Michael Walsh yesterday.
Mr Walsh said the Kangaroos had also signed former Norwood forward Ben Ackland.
Mr Walsh said Jordan's record in the VAFA spoke for itself.
"He is a prolific ballgetter and comes with a big rap," he said.
East Point has pencilled in Jordan, 26, for midfield and on-ball roles.
St Bernard's is a force in the VAFA, winning one premiership in four grand final appearances in the past five seasons.
Ackland, 25, has been out of the SANFL for four years.
Mr Walsh said East Point had been chasing the services of Ackland for two years.
He has been living in Ballarat and playing with Edenhope-Apsley in the Kowree-Naracoorte-Tatiara league in the state's far west.
Mr Walsh said East Point was still hot on the trail of two more well credentialled recruits from outside the BFL.
"If we can get these, we will then concentrate on promoting our junior list," he said.
Meanwhile, East Point has been buoyed by new playing coach Shane Fisher getting a medical clearance on a quadricep injury, which forced him to miss the latter part of last season with Lexton in the Lexton Plains league.
Fisher will lead the Kangaroos' first training session on November 21.
