The Tigers have pounced on the first day of Trade Week 2o13 striking a deal with Carlton for ruckman Shaun Hampson. The Queenslander, who was drafted in 2007 with pick #17 will be traded to Richmond after 63 games with the Blues in return for pick #28. Richmond list manager, Blair Hartley told the Richmond website that “At 25 years of age we feel that Shaun’s best football is ahead of him. Players over 200cm with Shaun’s athletic qualities are hard to find”.

The Blues have officially lodged the paperwork to secure Dale Thomas from Collingwood today, leaving the Magpies three days to match the Blues arrangement. According to AFL.com.au, Carlton are reportedly offering a four year contract worth more than $2.5 million.

Brisbane Lions ruckman Billy Longer has nominated Hawthorn as his club of choice. Longer, who was drafted at pick #28 in 2011, wants to return to Victoria. AFL.com.au reports that the Lions are seeking Hawthorns first round draft pick in exchange for the highly rated prospect.

The Kangaroos have made history today, paying the highest draft price for a father/son pick. Highly rated youngster Luke McDonald has been taken by North Melbourne as a father/son selection, although the Kangaroos were made to pay dearly having to part with their top pick in this years draft (pick #8) after West Coast bid pick #6 for the son of former Kangaroo ruckman Donald McDonald.

The Age reports that Essendon and the Western Bulldogs are yet to come to a deal on Bomber forward Stuart Crameri, with the Bombers wanting to keep him at Essendon. The Bulldogs have reportedly offered a contract to Crameri worth $1.8 million over four years, and offered Essendon their second draft pick (pick #22 overall). If no deal is reached Crameri can walk out in the preseason draft as an uncontracted player.

As of this afternoon, News LTD reports that no movement had been made on the Lance Franklin trade, despite the Swans hoping for a speedy resolution. According to the AFL website Hawthorn will not finalise any deals until its done, meaning that getting Billy Longer or doing any deals for Shane Savage are out of the question until thats sorted. Likewise progress appears to be slow on the Dal Santo trade between St Kilda and North Melbourne.

Fremantles Josh Mellington has joined a growing list of players seeking to pursue new opportunities at other clubs. Mellington has played six games in three years. Adelaides Ian Callinan has seen the writing on the wall with the recruitment of Eddie Betts and is believed to be seeking alternative employment. They join such luminaries as Paul Chapman, James Podsiadly and Shane Savage in looking for new places to work.
