    Autopsy Round 13, 2024: St.Kilda v Gold Coast: #GrabGate2024

I wonder if we haven't already got the majority of a strong midfield group on our list, but being played out of position? For 2025, I would love for our midfield to be: C: Wilson - Wang-Mil - Henry R: Marshall - 2024 Top 5 pick - Steele/Windhager To me, if we can nail our top 5 pick in this...

Autopsy Round 18, 2023: Gold Coast v St.Kilda *PERIS DEBUT*

Last 8 years’ ladder positions: 9th, 9th, 6th, 14th, 16th, 10th, 9th, 14th. Not sure that coaching is the problem. They have tried a host of coaches with this list, and with the exception of a slight overachievement in 2020, the team has finished no better than 9th. We are on track to finish...

    Autopsy Round 7, 2022: St.Kilda v Port Adelaide

Completely agree, which seems to be the main (though not only) reason we lost this game. We've unfortunately seen too many of these games with extremely poor goal kicking to write this off as an anomaly.

    Autopsy Round 7, 2022: St.Kilda v Port Adelaide

I agree that our general play wasn't that far from what it was last week (which I didn't think was that great, to be fair). As you say, goal kicking was even worse this week (4.18 compared to 10.17 last week), which seemed to be the main difference to me. I suspect that with even just a couple...

    Autopsy Round 7, 2022: St.Kilda v Port Adelaide

Were we that much worse than last week (when it seemed most were pretty pleased with the team)? I thought we were gutsy but played pretty poor footy last week. This week we had 22 scoring shots. Is it too simplistic to say that with better kicking for goal, we not only win but have people...

List Mgmt. 2021 Trade Thread - Part II

It's an interesting discussion point. He is clearly a talented clearance player as well, but I sometimes wonder if Gresh would be even more valuable as a forward pocket who spends 75% of the time forward and 25% of time in the middle, rather than the other way around. We obviously need quality...

List Mgmt. 2021 Trade Thread - Part II

It's interesting that most of us on here accept that Gresh is relatively poor by foot. I say interesting, because in his draft year combine, he got a perfect score in the goalkicking test, along with Clayton Oliver, Oleg Markov, and fellow future Saint Nick O'Kearney (see here). While I...

    Autopsy Round 20, 2021: St.Kilda v Carlton

My brother speaks regularly with a former St Kilda player (who retired within the last few years), who earlier this year said that he thinks the biggest problem at St Kilda is that the kids who are coming through (as a collective) are overrated, and aren't driving the improvement. While I was...

    Preview Round 13, 2021: St.Kilda v Adelaide - Cazaly's Stadium, Saturday 12th June, 7:25PM AEST

Given that everyone played each other once, and most Victorian teams had next to no true 'home' games, I take your point, although teams didn't have the exact same draw due to issues with hubs, scheduling and so on. But my comparative point also still stands- just playing everyone once last year...

    Preview Round 13, 2021: St.Kilda v Adelaide - Cazaly's Stadium, Saturday 12th June, 7:25PM AEST

I posted the other day about how history does not suggest a happy ending for Ratten as St Kilda coach. I thought it might also be worth pointing out that history also suggests that things aren't as bad as they seem for our list. Let's compare our 2021 performance against the much romanticised...

    Autopsy Round 11, 2021: St.Kilda v North Melbourne *ROSS 150TH* *CLAVARINO DEBUT*

They say that history doesn't repeat, but it does sometimes rhyme. It is very interesting reading to compare Brett Ratten's coaching tenures at Carlton and St Kilda: - Took over as a caretaker coach at both Carlton and St Kilda (from Pagan and Richardson respectively), before being chosen as...

    Autopsy Round 5, 2021: St.Kilda v Richmond *MADDIE'S MATCH* *CARLISLE 150TH*

I am a massive fan of Jack Steel, and also was very pleased to bring Brad Crouch to the club. But as a collective unit, our midfield seems to be doing much worse this year than in 2020, despite the addition of Crouch and Steele seemingly in even better form than last year. Why is this happening...

    List Mgmt. 2019 Trade Thread

Haha I certainly wouldn't pop too many more bottles of champagne just yet, as the story may be way off the mark. Only wanted to pass on what I had heard- would be a dream scenario if true, and certainly put an end to the Billings vs Bontempelli comparisons!

    List Mgmt. 2019 Trade Thread

I'll premise this by acknowledging that this info came second hand, and thus is largely speculative. I was told by a mate, who in turn was told by his friend who is a former board member of our club. Apparently, we are aware of a certain player who is currently not very happy at his current...
