    Preview Round 7, 2026: Hawthorn v Gold Coast Suns, 25 April 2026, 12.30pm AEST @ York Park

You’d think pretty simple changes: Out: sicily, Moore, McCabe In: Scrim, Dalton, Gunston Finn a chance over Dalton to provide a stronger body vs suns mids. But we’re more likely to back our mids in.

Opinion Who to come in for Chol?

Surely it’s Dear - similar styles in low possession / high impact, huge leaps, good defensive pressure, comfortable playing deep. Cant see McCabe playing chol’s role - unlikely we rejig our forward structure to fit him in (particularly given it’s starting to gel and Lewis finding form in...

    Preview Round 4, 2026: Hawthorn v Geelong, 6 April 2026, 3.15pm @ MCG

I’ve heard this trotted out. But butler was subbed off in 3rd quarter (and wasn’t injured at all) which strongly suggests Ward was fine up to this point. And you really think we’d match up Ward if he’d done a quad vs one of the best runners in league in Smith?

    Review Round 2, 2026: Geelong v Box Hill Hawks, 27 March 2026, 7.05pm @ GMBHA Stadium

T4P - do you know if we’re working on specific things with Dear? He seemed to be less trying to jump on people’s heads (ie using his elite leap) and more wrestling, combined with moving up the ground?

    Review Round 2, 2026: Geelong v Box Hill Hawks, 27 March 2026, 7.05pm @ GMBHA Stadium

Midfield is an issue. Finn, Dalton, Greeves + JUH struggled. Admittedly Dalton and Greeves up against afl hardened opposition. Didn’t give our forwards much of a chance. Feels like we have a weaker vfl listed group than previous year - makes a big difference to how our afl listed guys look /...

    Preview Round 4, 2026: Hawthorn v Geelong, 6 April 2026, 3.15pm @ MCG

Assume danger will get up. While the tags were effective we also struggled to stop the running power of Holmes and Smith - they create a lot of overlap run. Recall Ward trying to keep up - just didn’t have the speed. Geelong’s game plan pretty simple vs us - beat us up around the contest...

Review Round 1, 2026: Box Hill Hawks v Sydney Swans, 20 March 2026, 12.35pm @ Kennedy Community Centre

Thanks for reports. What role was McCabe playing? Ie a true KPF or a roaming tall flanker?

No Oppo Supporters General AFL discussion and other club’s news - Part 10

Reckon the rules changes suit the dogs. But also they often look good in the early season before teams sharpen up their defensive structures and limit their cheap goals out the back. Just not convinced from the last few years their game style stands up in finals.

Game Day Round 1, 2026: Essendon v Hawthorn, 7.40pm MCG

Essendon has a heap of inexperienced players with less 20 games. Their five on bench have 21 games between them. Outside the midfield we should have them well covered. No excuses to lose this.

    Preview Round 1, 2026: Essendon v Hawthorn, 13 March 2026, 7.40pm @ MCG

It was his first full afl game as a mid vs 90 games as a hff. Let’s see how he looks after another 10-15 games. But showed enough to persist with in one of the few promising signs of a poor team performance.

Autopsy Round 0, 2026: Hawks flattened by Giants

Morrison and Finn are team orientated players who know the system and can play multiple roles. Both appeared a bit underdone. What was the alternative? Perez and BMac? Neither can play wing or defensively accountable as Finn. Not sure would have made any difference. Would have thought a lot...

Prediction Best 23, Round Zero 2026

I’d expect we’ll increase our hff rotations into the midfield rather than bring in say HH. Butler and Finn would give us some much needed hardness and flex to rotate lots of players through the centre. And can help pressuring the GwS half backs.

Prediction Best 23, Round Zero 2026

Is hard to know how much impact the rule changes will have but reckon there’s a good chance our strategy will be based on breaking even in the clearences / limiting damage and then running teams off their feet. Guys like Watson will be used as centre bounce specialists to give us some X factor...

Training 2026 Off-Season & Preseason reports and discussion

Thanks for the report. How’s Nairn looking in the drills? Outside running any of the draftees really standing out? The wind has been mentioned in every report - is it really an issue?

Welcome Welcome to Hawthorn: Cam Nairn

Feels like there’s a lot of excitement (going by posts) for our other draftees but a bit less so for Nairn. Nairn could be an absolute weapon in our system. We don’t really have hff or wings (ex weddle when he plays there) with his marking power. Nairn pushing up ground and back into f50 could...
