    Player Watch #24 Dane Rampe

He's going to be leaving a massive hole in the team when he's done, and it's not far away. Watched Clarko on a one of the panel podcasts last year as we started to stumble. When asked about a key player for Sydney he had no hesitation naming Rampe, said when he was going well the Swans were a...

    Best Contested Midfielder

JPK based on his finals play, he found another gear in the big games against the best teams. The 2016 finals with 18+ contested possessions, 30+ disposals and a goal a game were something else. Did it all.

Coach Luke Beveridge & the Dogs - is his time up? Where are they at?

The problem is that with that list, and the flashes of form they showed in the back half of the season, they shouldn't be playing an Elimination Final. They've never finished higher than 5th with Bevo; in hindsight that's horribly inconsistent performance. Bevo seems to be able to put together...

    2024 Rolling ALL-Australian Team

Brett Kirk in 2005. There's more of them than you think. The ones I can't understand are like Fred Goldsmith in 1955 - won the Brownlow but wasn't B&F. The Swans B&F voting has thrown up some strange ones.

Media Swans Talk in the Media 2024

Sort of? Felt like he was hunting hard for anything different to fill out the article. Claiming things like a brief GWS lead at the start of the 2nd was signs of an upset in the making, or that the Swans are believing their own press, is a fair jump. It wasn't the Swans best win of the season...

Schools to have produced both an AFL and NRL player

If Barker College upthread qualifies for the AFL part they had Peter Taylor go there for cricket. (edit - and Alyssa Healy, dunno how she slipped by). Thought Shore would get all three with a few cricketers, a ton of Wallabies and LRT and Henry Playfair for AFL but it doesn't look like any of...

Media Swans Talk in the Media 2024

I think that reflects role more than ability for Rampe, and when the opportunity is there he's a great distributor (and the ABC graph showed that). It annoyed me no end after the GWS game, when McCartin went down and Melican had to get treatment, that one of the SEN podcasts was disappointed...

If you go off the ABC article it should be Rampe. He and Blakey are huge outliers in that scoring per back half intercept graph. If a chain starts with Rampe he's going to find a target in space and we're probably getting points.

Worst forward line, midfield, and defence to win a premiership in the AFL era?

Craig Bolton as an elite KPD is the hill I die on. Only the two AA's in competition with high-profile stars like Scarlett and Glass or stats darlings like Bowden but he shined at the back for the Roos Swans teams.

Worst forward line, midfield, and defence to win a premiership in the AFL era?

Oof. Just comparing the 2005 and 2012 Swans midfields the 2012 group is streets ahead, 9 AA spots between them and then Goodes dropping back from up front when something extra was needed. 2005 had Luke Ablett, Paul Bevan and Amos Buchanan spending time in the middle in the GF, love that 2005...

    Autopsy AFL 2024 Round 9 - Dockers v Swans Fri May 10th 8:30pm AEST/6:30pm WST (OS)

That sounds reasonable to me. Seems like it's been a few seasons now where the Swans are more concerned with the quality of i50s than quantity. Breaking even or losing the raw inside 50 count but keeping the opposition conversion rate below average. It could also be that Serong is good enough...

Review Winners and losers 2022 draft

Why? If they want a specific player at a pick and don't rate the next available player on their board as high then why should they be forced to use the pick? Bid and see what happens, if the other team matches then on to plan B and trade it.

Fox: 185cm, 84kg Smith: 183cm, 83kg Wikipedia isn't perfect but they're pretty bloody close. Rampe's got a couple of inches on both of them, fair bit bigger.

I like the idea but I wish he'd turn into the heir to Nick Smith. Similar size, both rookie'd, having Fox evolve into absolute lockdown small defender to complement Clarke at the other end would be a huge win for the coaching staff.

Toast How can this Sydney side be stopped

It's a home final, a chance at a home Prelim, a final at the MCG where the Demons are reigning premiers and you think they shat the bed against the Swans? If that is true (I don't believe so) it's a horrible indictment of the team that they were completely unable to prepare for such a big game.
