    Opinion Commentary & Media VII

Kingy has been on this for a while. Our kids are playing out of their weight class and being let down by our leaders / senior players. Our leaders who cannot execute basic skills, who make basic structural errors, the list goes on.

    Player Watch #24: Tom Powell - signed thru 2026 - 7th highest ranked player league-wide after 3 rds - avg. 27.7d & 7clearances p/g

His footskills are as good. Only time I'm confident are when he & Sheez have the ball.

Autopsy The started-before-half-time All Time Insipid #norfball performance v. the team down the highway who shall not be named

I don’t really agree tbh. I think our structure / system / game plan (whatever you want to call it) is a significant part of our issues. Statistically our players, particularly our young players are going ok. They have no system to fall back on though. If they don’t win first possession, the...

Autopsy The started-before-half-time All Time Insipid #norfball performance v. the team down the highway who shall not be named

Sure they have. Which means we need multiple avenues for transitioning the football. Unfortunately we are also persisting with “senior” guys like Tucker, Jy, Scott etc. who cannot execute fundamental skills. So anything that isn’t Powell or Sheezel breaks down and results in a turn over.

Autopsy The started-before-half-time All Time Insipid #norfball performance v. the team down the highway who shall not be named

What we don’t have the cattle for is chip chip chip possession footy. We are still the most scored team against on turn over, so I’m not sure what his realisation is protecting.

When did North Ball become Chip Chip Chip ball? Clarkson deserves some criticism for what we have served up in the first 5 weeks. We appear to be playing how we were pre his leave of absence.

Player Watch #41: Blake Drury - 17d/2 goals vs Geelong - does he keep his spot vs Hawthorn?

Quite a surprise to have a lead up option coming out of centre clearance. That hard working half forward is becoming one of the most important roles in football. We need to put selfless workhorses around our talented guys. Drury did it well today, needs to keep working hard and add another one...

List Mgmt. 2024 Trade & List Management Thread

Spot on this. Get me guys that can run, that are unconditional with work rate (defensive and offensive) & pressure. Carlton’s rise is as much about the role players (id argue it’s what moved them to premiership quality) as it is about their stars. Watch our other perceived issues lessen if we...

Backhanders aside, Kane is right on this one. Harry needs to be moved up the ground. Definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result. He’s our best player and we need him around the ball. Give Kerch the keys to the back 50 exits.

Couple key areas of focus over the next few weeks… - How are we going to get Simpkin into the game? We cannot continue to have an invisible skipper - What are we going to do about our wingman? It’s one of the most important roles in transition footy & we currently have two blokes (Tucker &...

For me, we cannot continue to carry all of Stephens, Stephenson, Tucker in the 22. They’re supposed to be in the side to provide run yet are providing zero. Playing Bailey behind the ball is also just flat out not working. I’m a big Bailey fan but he’s nearly in this group if he remains down...

    Player Watch #4: Aidan Corr

It’s a shame because he was really strong in the back end of last year. No preseason obviously hurts. Needs to get better if we are a chance at winning a game.

    Autopsy Autopsy V Carlton

Carlton provided a blue print on how to dismantle Northball. Beat up our mids at contest, tag LDU, clog the corridor and transition quickly on rebound. Need the master coach to work out how we overcome this as this is what every club is going to do against us. Yes the umpiring was horrendous...

Player Watch #44: Cameron Zurhaar - [AFL.com] NM offers 5yr deal - CZ interest from SYD/GC - CZ mgr says 'wants to see improvement' - out vs GEEL (calf)

Have heard from an ex-player that he’s as good as gone to the Swans. Hopefully not correct.

Player Watch #22: Taylor Goad - #20 in '23 ND - the Unicorn

There was one piece of play on the weekend where he got the ball on centre wing, put it under his arm and accelerated before delivering inside 50. It was a small glimpse of what this guy is capable of. He is freakishly quick.

Which team out of Adelaide, North and Hawthorn has the better youth? Part 2

If we can take anything from the first 2 games (and praccy games) of 2024, it is crystal clear that Psicosis was right and Dommy was wrong.

Autopsy Tale of two halves vs. Freo

Roller coaster of an afternoon. Some of the most scintillating footy I’ve seen this club produce in nearly a decade. Have we seen a better display of foot skills in the last decade than that first half? Some really encouraging signs. Unfortunately the second half was more of the same we’ve...

    Player Watch #24: Tom Powell - signed thru 2026 - 7th highest ranked player league-wide after 3 rds - avg. 27.7d & 7clearances p/g

Have said it previously, there is minimal go home factor with Tom. Very settled in Melbourne, doing some part-time work at a big 4 firm, has a Melbourne gf, great mates at the club and one of Clarksons favourites.

Player Watch #29: Will Phillips - 20d/12 tackles in VFL vs Brisbane - does he come in vs Hawthorn?

It’s a pretty random one to pull out of left field, so assume Jay has heard it somewhere. Whether it’s true or not is another story. I would expect with Wills personality that he would be committed to try and break into the midfield rather then looking elsewhere already. He’s just that type of...

    Autopsy GWS d NMFC 121 - 82.

I was asked pregame what I see as a “win”. I said 5 goal loss. We ended up with a 6 goal loss. Really difficult to gauge. They are white hot. They deserve all the hype they are getting. They do not have a weakness. Worth watching Kingsleys presser if you’re feeling negative, he was very...

    Autopsy GWS d NMFC 121 - 82.

Well, personally I don’t think Will is up to the level yet. Powell only recently is. I said in another thread, but Will needs to become elite as a mid or add another string to his game. I’m hopeful both happen, but IMO that is why he’s not getting a game. Powell is not only currently better as a...

    Autopsy GWS d NMFC 121 - 82.

Don’t think it’s Phillips and Powell tbh. Powell has more strings. It’s Phillips and Wardlaw/LDU. Pure mids that can’t play anywhere else. Difficult to carry if they’re not elite.

Unofficial Preview Round 1 Vs Giants - Saturday March 16

Isn’t rocket science for Will. He’s only got one string. For him to be in the side he needs to either become elite at that string, or add another. Also he is absolutely loved by the coaches, he’s just not best 22 based on above.
