Talent identification is a complex issue. Wow D82 had a great crack. I suspect (don't know) that the AFL is pretty amateurish and WC is not a stand out.

Looing at Olympic spoerts they probably have more focused criteria - jump high etc. Footy is highly multifactorial, speed, strength, endurance, skill, thinking, desire, etc, etc.

I was impressed to see the Barcelona setup - major player in a world sport. They have a bording school starting at  12 year olds to train and develop the best prospects. They have Australians there as kids showing how they scan the globe. Relocate their family and find them mployment. Some AFL staff have told me thar U12 is where tallent emerges. While there are late developers, talls etc I recall U12 players who were absolute stand outs and went on to be elite  AFL players. (Names withheld to protect the their privacy)
