Up to 12 Cronulla players who were involved in the supplements program at the club in 2011 have agreed to accept an ASADA deal which would result in a 12-month ban, back-dated to November 2013.

The players agreed to the deal on Friday morning after receiving assurances from the World Anti-Doping Agency that the terms would not be appealed by the international body.

Of those playing in the NRL, only Sharks captain Paul Gallen remains undecided - although Fairfax Media understands that Gallen is likely to accept the offer tabled at a meeting with ASADA on Wednesday.

Well well well.

ASADA have played this one well, no doubt about it. McDevitt's law enforcement background proves a masterstroke
Not all that incompetent after all? Mind you, these guys really had no defence. Still surprised WADA okayed the back dating though.

So basically there is no penalty at all for cheating.

Meanwhile, Lance Armstrong loses his 7 Tour de France titles.. stripped of accolades.

These guys take a couple of weeks off.

What a laff !
At this point ASADA don't give a stuff about justice, they just want scalps they can point at.

The penalty should reflect what was won. Armstrong won 7 Tour de France titles. Are we to strip the Sharks of their wooden spoon?

That makes it sound like a game they won.

Cronulla cheated with systematic doping and they got caught. The players now cop their somewhat light penalty.

The NRL keeping completely independent of the investigation does show high integrity though.

If the SC notices against Essendon are ruled invalid due to the joint investigation - the players should be asked to be re-interviewed. If they refuse they should then not be offered substantial assistance discounts.

well if you're happy with the way they've conducted themselves that's all that matters.

3 week penalty for doping. Happy days

We finished nowhere in 2012. So do we get a light penalty to if found guilty?

I an no lawyer and far from the most intelligent person on the planet, but how can things be backdated? "Hey Mr Murderer, we have convicted you of killing someone in 1982 and given you a 30 year sentence. Since the offence was back then, we backdated it, so you can now walk free if you sign this deal."

Seriously WTF? Am I missing something? They are basically copping a suspension that isn't a suspension. Same amount of time missed as our old mate Boomer Harvey copped for belting someone.

These guys are accused of cheating for 11 weeks of a season where they finished 13th of 16 teams; and Dank's program was shut down by March (about round 2 of the season).

Lance Armstong was accused of cheating for at least 11 years (1995-2005), and compelling his teammates to under the threat of being sacked; bullying witnesses and a host of other such things.

There are massive differences. Lance Armstrong knowingly implemented and ran a doping program as well as encouraging and actively coercing other cyclists into the program.

The Cronulla and EFC players allowed a crazing "scientist" to do what he wants because they were told to.

The critical question remains who told them to? And why is the EFC doing everything possible to cover that up?

Yeah, no, not impressed with the length of ban. As I said, very surprised WADA allowed it. However if they then go after those in charge of it at the club, and they don't get the leniency showed the players, I'm happier with that. Players were doing what they were told (bet that never happens again), but those in charge were extremely negligent. Same for Essendon if the offer was given to them.

So do all players get the same deal? Is that right?

Not bad eh.

So much for WADA not accepting any kind of deals and the sanctity of their code. Kind of makes a mockery of a lot of opinions over the journey
I'm still a little confused at how ASADA can do this. The same mob who appealed for the Saad and VFL players sentences to be lengthened.

A pity Saad didn't get the same leniency, ASADA even tried to appeal his 18 month ban to get it extended to 2 years, all for taking a protein shake containing a substance that was only banned on game day.

The old safety in numbers theory has never been more true, absolute joke of a system.
