News Hawthorn fan racially abuses Heritier Lumumba (and doesn't get thrown out for it).

Huge double standards here, a Hawks fan tells Heritier to "heck off back to Brazil" and the MCG attendants don't throw him out (he was thrown out for violence later on).

Guess only 13 year old Pies fans get thrown out.

A Hawthorn fan was reportedly escorted from the MCG on Friday night after making a racial slur against Brazilian-born Collingwood footballer Heritier Lumumba.

In the dying moments of the Hawks' 65-point win over Collingwood, a Hawthorn supporter sitting in the members' reserve was said to have yelled out to Collingwood defender Lumumba to "f*** off back to Brazil".

The slur was overheard by a group of Brazilian Collingwood supporters a few rows away, sparking a verbal row, according to a spectator who contacted The Age.

Supporters from both teams who overheard the comment subsequently called for the Hawthorn fan – a man aged in his late 20s – to be evicted from the match.

However, the spectator told The Age that when an MCG attendant came over to defuse the incident, he sat joking with the man and his friends, and declined to kick them out.

The spectator – who did not want to be named – said the MCG attendant instead motioned to the crowd that there were "only a few minutes left in the game" so evicting the man wasn't necessary.

I am not sure that Brazilians cop much racist flack. It is the sort of place most people would be happy to visit. In any case, he is African rather than Brazilian.

Pretty sure H's mother is from Brazil. He spends a lot of time there.

Haha come on there taking the piss. There are a lot more racial problems in the world then some one saying go home! Have a look at Syria

Born in Rio to Brazilian parents.....emigrated with mother to Australia at a young age.
Can't get anymore Brazilian than that.
Many Brazilians have African roots, from the slave trade in the 17th & 18th centuries (sugar & mining industries).

Not really sure that is racially abusing him. It's not smart but how different is it to saying to someone '**** off back to Western Australia'?
Yer I know....it's tricky.....if you said **** off back to the Tiwi islands.....that would be considered racist.
I guess it boils down to the 'intent' of the abuse.

He has so many stories who knows where he actually comes from
When a white bashes up an Indian it's racist, when an Indian bashes up a white it's a random attack, that's just how racism works in this weird af world
Are you f***ing kidding me?

Edit: it's not racism against white people because white people aren't persecuted, looked down upon or disadvantaged in Australia.
And that is an outrageous comment about "who knows where he comes from", what a lack of respect for a premiership player and great Australian sportsman. Racism stops with me.

It's often the people that acuse people of being racist for actually having the racist views... This is a great case

He might be many things, but a great Australian sporstman is stretching it a bit on the strength of this year's form.

What a brilliant retort: "no U R!"
Why did you even bring up Indians being bashed? How often is there a case of Indians bashing white people? Is this a common occurrence? Classic casual racism is to accuse the victims of racism against white people, which throughout history has almost NEVER been a problem, certainly not in predominantly white countries. Taking the literal view of the word "racism" in terms of distinguishing people by race is the exact twisted logic that Andrew Bolt, a convicted racist, uses to justify his claims of being an "indigenous australian" because he was born here, and accuses QANTAS of being racist for campaigning for indigenous rights. Yes it is literally differentiating people by race to campaign for indigenous rights, sure, but if you want to call that 'racist' then it is not a very useful term - we need people to campaign for indigenous people because they are heavily disadvantaged in our society, and have an extremely low life expectancy in a first world country. White people are not disadvantaged by race.

Casual racism comes out whenever people have the slightest inclination to turn on a player. After Heritier was all australian everyone was lauding him. He has a few bad games and all of a sudden you are implying that he would LIE about his origins to garner what, sympathy? Special treatment? How ridiculous and disrespectful to mistrust him like that.

All australian, 200 game one club player, premiership player, twice featured in the top five of the copeland, his cv is better than many. On recent form plugger is not a very good sportsman ;)

Bizarre comment.
If anything he is Australian.
Perhaps I should have said that he is of African heritage which is what I meant. To imply that I was suggesting anything racist is ridiculous. Perhaps you should dismount your pure white steed, put aside your shining white armour and allow yourself a bit of R&R time.

I wasn't accusing you of anything, I just don't think that how suitable a persons country of origin is for a holiday has any bearing on how acceptable it is to tell them to heck off back there. I'm sure Harry would be more than happy to go to Brazil in the off season and visit family, but that doesn't excuse the taunt from the crowd. I wasn't attacking you, just pointing out that Harry can identify as Brazilian, African, and australian if he wants to.
