Apparently C7 live in a bit of a bubble

On the hd thread a few months ago someone posted that they caught up with a C7 staffer, and he was genuinely surprised that there was any negativity to the c7 afl package, because all their data told them people think it's awesome

Either that or whats thought by the general public isnt the same as BF
My local pub plays the footy every Friday night but actively mute the tv during the game because the commentators are annoying and incompetent. Plus regularly missing out on goals due to ad breaks gets on everyone's nerves too.

But I can't complain too much, it's free to air AFL in an NRL dominated city. I'll take all I can get.

A good example is today in Perth ... Freo V Port on 7 at 3.00 till 6.00 and then to watch the next game at 6.00 you have to change to 7mate.

They are never not going to have the main Perth game on their main channel, and they are never going to bump the news to accommodate an interstate game. Don't really think this one is an issue at all.

All year Saturday night games that dont involve a WA team at Subi have been aired live at 5.30 on 7mate. Last Saturday it had to be delayed to accommodate 7's decision to delay the Freo home game by 2 hours.

Hang on, unless i misunderstand you, they have had stacks of WCE and Dockers games this year on 7mate in Perth from my recollections.

It changes from week to week.

IF Ten can get all the AFL Rights, I would love to see it be similar to When Seven had the TV Rights from 1997-2001 as well as continuing Fox Footy.

Not sure why "host broadcaster" and "also simulcasted on fox footy" were necessary considering EVERY game bar the GF has them. Makes for tough reading.

Isnt this the 3rd or 4th time you've posted this schedule in various threads ?

Its not going to happen im afraid.

Foxtel paid more than 7 in the last deal. That would mean Ten would have to pay more than double what 7 paid last time plus inflation etc to outbid foxtel and get all the games.

NOw 7 already show the highest rating games, at least most weeks they do. So the extra 5 games Ten is paying double for arent going to rate that well since they are on when the better games are also shown and the good rating games, except for Friday night are also going to rate less becasue its going to split the casual audience.

As it is, 7 is the only channel that has free footy, so there's no competition to the Sat/Sun footy. If Ten shows all the games then some will watch one game while other watch a different game and neither game is going to rate. OVerall it will rate more but its not viable if you're paying double for the rights.

Foxtel meanwhile, isnt go to pay just to simulcast games that people can watch for free. They cant sell that for $60 a mth even in HD. Thre AFL would be lucky to get $5mil a year from paytv without exclusivity.

SO while im sure you would love to see every game live for free, who wouldnt ? its just not commercially viable. Best case scenario for anti-foxtel people is that foxsports offer a stream service like they do now with the EPL but i wouldnt expect it to be cheap since this is the AFL's key market.

Forgive me if this is the wrong place to make this point but I find it simply astonishing that in 2014 there is still no live FTA broadcasts of AFL in HD. We have had it here in the UK for about ten years now for football, cricket, rugby league and union on Sky and we have BBC, ITV and C4 all showing live sport FTA in HD. I hope for you guys being the wonderful sporting nation you are that the AFL make it a condition, even before this current TV rights contract is up.

Apparently C7 live in a bit of a bubble

On the hd thread a few months ago someone posted that they caught up with a C7 staffer, and he was genuinely surprised that there was any negativity to the c7 afl package, because all their data told them people think it's awesome

comes down to framing of the questions I took part in a poll that asked such questions (among others) as:
Do you enjoy watching live Sport on FTA tv?
Do you have Pay Tv?
Do you support Australians only being able to watch Live sports if they Subscribe to a Pay Tv Provider?
If More Sports became Exclusive to Pay Tv would you watch more or less televised Sport?
How important do you rate being able to watch Sport live, as opposed to delayed coverage?

Now this was a generic survey for the government when they looking at changing anti syphoning law's but as you can clear see from just these few question i can remember, you can clearly see the poll want's you to side with FTA air coverage to the point of framing Pay Tv's impact on "all australians" rather than just my own. I found the whole thing quite jarring.

the fact is 7 are exclusive rights holders so long as viewers are up (which they are nationally) 7 will say they're doing a great job.

Looking back, the channel 10 broadcast is far and away superior to what channel 7 have dished up past and present. I don't know this for fact so someones confirmation would be handy, but Channel 10 broadcast in Full HD did they not? The picture was always immaculate in comparison to channel 7. Then the call; BT, Bruce and Dennis vs. Time Lane, Quarters and Michael Christian.

Admitted, Kelli Underwood was a ******* disaster, but on the whole ten was far and way better. Id welcome them back with open arms, even if it was only 2 games a week.
