I've noticed 7 games plus finals seems to be the perfect length, especially since each team has 7 opponents.

Can't do that, it would mean a 4-3 home-away split for some teams and a 3-4 split for the rest. Then Eddie would whinge like a bitch if his team didn't get 5 home games at the MCG.
