Thank you Fly. Listen up some of you.

"I don't know where that's come from. I've said last week we're not in the business of resting players. You disrespect the competition basically if you want to rest players.
How many times does he have to say it? And he's also said they are managed during the week. Makes sense to do that with their training loads as opposed to missing whole games.

Guaranteed we'll still get people talking about resting someone... 🙄

So I'm guessing the extra weeks JDG is expected to get are due to the Eagles player being concussed? Harmes : 1 week JDG : 3 weeks & rising everytime a commentator talks about it...

I just think it’s in the contest. From memory players leaving the ground to bump have got 4, it’s not in that category. It’s intentional in that he meant to bump, but it’s careless at best. Hewetts shoulder drops because he handballs late. Just my opinion. It’s all irrelevant what we think until the decision is made I guess
I’m not sure that’s relevant. Hewett handballing does not mean he forgoes the right to have his head protected or that De Goey’s duty of care to not hit him in the head disappears.

Was at the game, 2nd teir at western end near the point post.

Good spot to watch the game.

Take aways

  • Degs is gone for two
  • Dom Sheed played an absolute blinder
  • Geez we've got speed! Bobby Hill and Johnny *n Noble!
  • Wc dug deep, real deep. Tim Kelly a very good game
  • Midway through the 3rd had dark thoughts creeping into my head.
  • Naicos live is a joy to watch, the way he draws the opposition to the last millisecond and then release so our outside runner is in optimal position is the maturity and awareness of a 200 gamer. The blind over his head handball to Titch was sublime.
  • Cox and Cameron, Moore, Murphy, IQ, Bruz, Crisp, Jaicos , all solid.
  • The hyphen was below par
  • Oscar way too mobile for Billy Frampton, worried him into giving away a free or two.
  • Hopefully injuries aren't too severe.
  • Really only played a half of dominant football. Wc fought hard, probably their best game for the year.
  • Harvey looked good early but faded. Kicked a goal, not a bad debut
An enjoyable win in the end, kudos to Wc fans. 41k - lots of us Pies though.
After watching the replay.

  • Yeo and Kelly were absolute monsters in the 2nd and 3rd, Degs and Naics kept us in it.
  • Ginnivan, did the team thing where he should've kicked it himself. Still goes to show the culture is absolute top notch at the Pies.
  • *As much as the commentary is at the minute about 'we're the best in it'. Yeah I'm not certain, it's like we're 'managing' our form, got challenged by a team high on spirit and then responded like we should've. None the less, not convinced.
  • However let's not forget that the opposition were down two rotations before quarter time.
  • Counter to that, we played our best football for the day being down two rotations in the last
  • Pendles, a sublime on field coach, just knows how to direct the troops in game while still passing sublime blind overhead handballs to an outside runner (should've mentioned this in the first post.
Given all that, and considering wc position at the minute with in game injuries, just goes to show how even the competition is.

* In saying that I don't think we're near potential yet and it seems we're 'holding back' that form until the whips are cracking come late August and September.

Not the outcome we were hoping for from two games against bottom of the ladder teams, in terms of margins and losing players for extended periods of time, but we're still a game clear on top of the ladder at the turn and are getting some key players back so we're in good shape.

Focus now needs to turn towards getting some more consistency in our intensity and effort levels across the four quarters and then start ticking off the boxes going forward; top 8, top 4 and then hopefully 2 to guarantee us a finals campaign at the MCG only.

I get whiplash from our high highs and low lows within a single game over the last few weeks. I don't know what to make of it.
When looking at the end result, I suppose it's hard to complain too much!
I think it being underestimated how good WCE were in that 20 minutes of playing like us.

Whoever posted in the game day thread about a deliberate plan of Pies blitzing a game’s first quarter, hibernating for quarters 2 and 3 then opening the throttle in the last to run out the game was spot on.

Incredibly frustrating for us supporters but we’ve seen it happen so many times.

I recommend seeing the footage of David King (and someone else, apologies) discussing this. As others have noted, it’s about how we go hard in the first quarter and establish a lead; generally play to maintain it in the second and third quarters, or at least stay with the opposition; before (if we need to) going hard again in the fourth.

It’s a pattern which allows us to conserve energy for the last quarter.

King and co also name seven of our players who are in the AFL’s top 50 ‘first quarter specialists’. These guys set us up in Q1.

Fly's presser

What did you take out of the win considering that was one of West Coast's performances of the season?

What do you think changed from that point late in the 3rd quarter to the final siren?

West Coast had only two on the bench from quarter time, did you identify that as an area to exploit?

Are you concerned about Jordan De Goey's bump?

From a coaching perspective, what do you encourage the players to do in a situation like that whether they should tackle, bump etc?

How is De Goey after the match knowing he's likely to be suspended?

De Goey's been so important for you this season, how do you see yourselves placed without him going forward?

What's the situation of Will Hoskin-Elliott and Beau McCreery's injuries?

Ash Johnson came back on. Was that just a massive corky?

Clearances haven't been great in the past month. Is it an area you need to improve on?

It was suggested during the week that you maybe you should 'rest' players? Do you think today reinforced why you didn't do that?

Was it pleasing to see Bobby Hill step up in crucial moments?

Are you looking forward to King's Birthday? What's the mindset going into that game?

God I love Fly.

I made the mistake of visiting the thread at the end of that awful 2nd qtr. Never again 😂 big mistake

Nice effort by the WA crowd impacting the umpiring.

We had our usual “free kick” to Cameron when he’d marked it anyway.

We had the “relayed downfield” free kick when we had already marked the kick.

We had Nick D tackled after disposing of the ball so he couldn’t overlap run, which is meant to be 50m, but instead they didn’t pay the 50m and then reversed the free kick because Josh D got scragged off the ball and wrestled with a player to the ground.

slow clap

Shitty game and glad it’s over before we lose more players. Well done to the boys for doing what needed to be done to win.

The only time I've ever seen that 50m paid in a game was one to Dangerfield against us. Which just about sums it up, really.

It's absurd isn't it?

They said we'd reached our peak too early after round 2.

Now we're doing too well to win the GF because we're on top of the ladder & it's so rare for a team to win a premiership when they are on top of the ladder in June

..but apparently we are not really playing as well as it would appear by our ladder position ..

Make it make sense..

And some commentators (Cornes) even suggested we were crazy for not resting 10 players today.

This stat was on TRSF this weekend.

That’d be graded “high contact” (to the head), “medium impact”, “careless” = 1 week.

DoGoey’s would likely be graded “high contact”, “severe impact” (under concussion protocols), “careless” = 3+ weeks

So yeah, it would go from “medium impact” to “severe impact” because of Eagles player being concussed.
