Could be a mistake, could be that the club knew and hoped no one would pick up on it. Either way it’s a shame for the St Johns boys who turn up every week to play and then have this happen when someone in admin ****ed up.

Not sure how the Box Hill ressie boys are feeling about this but I’m sure they wouldn’t feel great about getting in this way. Again it’s not them who would have had any idea about this but someone in admin who found it. Don’t really think anyone wins in this situation.
In this day and age there should be a simple formula to apply to make sure you can't select any unqualified player. Step up VAFA

Wouldn't be difficult to generate a list of players eligible and circulate this to clubs.

Last year it took a player points breach by a Premier side to change things so clubs needed to apply for player points. Wonder if HQ will adjust the system in future so clubs have the list of players to choose from.

Of course there is. Perhaps a little well let's hope they don't notice might have occured. Or a phone call to the VAFA to query it in the week leading up.

Ignorance isn't going to hold up in the VAFA court

Or I don't know, wild suggestion, but clubs read the rules of what constitutions eligible players
iDon, are you a club secretary? Must be.

Welcome to the Vafa

A bit harsh. We all pay fees and to take the Grand Final away from the boys for a div 7 Reserves game. You get less for murder

But hey, Obviously someone from Box Hill knows the rules and sooked up
Bit petty by Box Hill North then? Wouldn't have been flagged with the VAFA if they didn't chirp up. Not like the guy had played 14 senior games.

Heard a few rumours the North Brunny ressies were to scared to face the mighty JOC's, would not be surprised if the Bulls tipped the VAFA off about the ineligible player.
Doesn't matter how it's come to light. VAFA, North Brunswick, Box Hill North or someone else. Fact is you were found out for playing ineligible player. Also irrelevant is whether the player had 1 kick or 20.

Tough lesson but only one club responsible. Let's hope VAFA put in place some assistance for finals teams next year. Ie. List of players to choose from

Genuinely don't see the VAFA need to keep record of players eligibility. It's squarely a club matter and organization. It's also a basic rules review

The flip side of that argument is he only needed to play 4 games throughout the season out of 18 & could only manage to give up 3 Saturdays of his time?

Other leagues have 6 games for finals qualification

Try this > According to the VAFA results pages R 14 Reserves Box Hill v Masala Box Hill wins by 22 goals but has 24 players listed [check it out Buddy]. This is two more than is allowed. All 24 get credit for a ressies match which is not fair. If the VAFA admin did a better job at policing this instead of fining clubs for wrong uniforms and hassling about going to events we would all be better off. Tis "tactic" of adding extra players or not removing the is only a $10 fine probably. In years gone by if you had 23 on the team sheet and didn't cross one off - ineligible player and loss of points. These days VAFA footy department could not be bothered doing simple checks.

Agree the clubs should know the rules.

Need to pay the bills somehow. With clubs leaving the uniform and events fines will need to go up next year!

Better appeal to the VAFA. Should be heard by Christmas.

Would love to hear how large the Box Hill magoos went on Mad Monday... or were they awaiting the verdict?
From what I've heard (outside the club now) the Box Hill guys didn't know anything about it until they were told they'd be playing this weekend. So I'd assume thy wouldve gone pretty big with both the seniors and reserves being knocked out on the weekend. Imagine having your mad monday then a couple days later being told hang on dont throw your boots out yet. Could add to the possibility of Nth Brunny pulling this up.

Get your hand off it mate, 3 posts and two are about your BHN, stop deflecting.

Wrong again, we aren't that smart at NB.

My guess is Albert Park as iDon is the only one clever enough to know the rule...

Literally heard blokes from BHN at Box Hill City Oval on the Sunday talking about the fact JOCS had an ineligble player and that they had reported it, but didn't expect anything to happen.

Was doing the rounds on here on Monday.

Still no official statement from the VAFA, very odd.

They of course had time to put out an article regarding the new board members.

Hopefully the new board can sort out this mess in the Divisions and structuring for next season. Divisional clubs, largely non-alumni, are desperate for support and fed up with silly fines from HQ and 'please explain' letters every Monday.

It appears so billyboi, I feel for your club as I don't think this is a case of blatant cheating.

Surely there is a way of finding this out when team lists are input before the game rather than after ?

Box hill’s socials are awfully quiet after they sooked up.

Thought they’d be jumping out of their skin after making the grand final ‘they rightly deserve’ in Div 7 ressies

A lot of carry on from st johns when they have done the wrong thing to be honest. I bet they still count Jobe Watson as a brownlow medalist.

Pretty rough to say there is a lot of "carry on" from the club. How many players are reading the rule book every year? Sure the committee and higher ups should be aware and this falls squarely on them, but have a think about the players in this instance that are devastated having been in the top 2 all year.

It's a garbage rule that has cost a team a chance at a flag.
It's ridiculous that you can double up and have both games count towards your career tally, goals and B&F votes all valid but for finals eligibility, the one game that was required is not counted.

Good old VAFA - for the love of the game. No wonder so many teams are on the way out.
