Please just no lessons from him about taking set shots after the siren.
But hopefully it's Ok to instruct players how to kick a goal (and win the match) while lying down in the goal square.

You never know when you are going to need a skill like that.

I think a consultant is fine, don’t really need someone full time. Just a specialist and Johnno was pretty damn reliable and a very smooth, replicat-able action
Yeah realistically this only requires someone to be present for an hour or two week to work with specific players at training, as well as being a sounding board throughout the rest of the week.

The difference between consultant and coach is that if he is a coach, he will perceived to be an employee and will therefore inevitably be accused of having a conflict of interest which limits his role in the media (which is his main job).

As a consultant, the perception will be different in that he is just there to help out certain players with their goal kicking and not part of the normal coaching structure. No different to what Matthew Lloyd and others have done. All about perception to protect his main job.

I like to think we’re also getting around the soft cap

Also a coach will tell you what is wrong with your goal kicking and work with you on how to improve it.
A consultant will confirm that you have something wrong with your goal kicking and that you need to improve it. How to improve it will be addressed in a new additional contract.

From this definition it certainly appears that the latter is superfluous to requirements.

We've got a lot of underpaid consultants on BF then.

Given that Johnno doesn't have any notable biomechanical or psychological background, it appears to me it's for the fans as much as it is for the players.

great having a huge Bulldogs ‘name’ like Johnno back in the fold. He sees the game so clearly and understands the latest trends with tactics etc… Easily in the top 2 or 3 expert commentators on Fox…

He does know a little about goal kicking. Number 48 on the all time list.
So does Brendan Fevola, doesn't mean he should be anywhere near a high-performance environment

You’d get those people to supplement or test the coach’s ideas but I’d still prefer the person that had about 1,000 shots at goal in 350 games at AFL level as the actual coach.
