Congratulations on one of the most patronising and pathetic posts I've seen on this site. 1) I have no bias or dog in the fight here. 2) I'm suggesting he gets the attention because of his surname, much like Ben and Jack. 3) I have no idea why you have to keep referring to the Ess drugs scandal...

OK well that's a helpful contribution. Anyway I don't plan to discuss conflicts any further, it's not achieving anything. I just think it's pointless to pretend a pretty large conflict didn't exist, much as it would be pointless to pretend that was the main reason he's gone. But it's a factor...

Liddle's conflict you describe is no different from any person in that role, the conflict (to the extent it is) is from the nature of the role itself. SOS's conflict is due to his personal circumstances, and not inherent in the role. We can fix one (but not the other) by changing the personnel.

    Opinion Stephen Silvagni

I'm not confusing anything, this is not the same type of conflict that's encountered every day in every meeting. This is a personal conflict, and more akin to if in that meeting they had to decide which company to invest in, and one of the options was a company I'm personally invested in. This...

    Opinion Stephen Silvagni

You misunderstand conflict of interest, it isn't about or the same as competing interests within the business, it's about a conflict with a personal interest you have outside the business. This conflict does go beyond the dynamic that is present in every meeting, every day, and it's ridiculous...

    Opinion Stephen Silvagni

That wasn't the post you replied to and that isn't what I said. What I said was that his 'influence seemingly went way beyond his stated role' because of who he is (and his friendship with MLG). I stand by that and it doesn't reflect on SOS negatively as such, he is an incredibly influential...

    Opinion Stephen Silvagni

We agree on that. The situation has been handled poorly (though I don't add the statement to that). As to why - well, only those behind the scenes truly know and we're only hearing one side at the moment. I've never been a MLG fan and he's not giving me a huge reason to start now. The Niall...

    Opinion Stephen Silvagni

As it's just an opinion I'm really not sure what being ill-informed has to do with it. Ill-informed about what? I think the only thing I say by way of fact in it is that by all reports Liddle did care about his sons being there. I doubt that's untrue but it's also not really a big point. In...

    Opinion Stephen Silvagni

What do you all want the media release to say? It could have given Liddle's side of the story and listed some things negative to SOS. Instead it focused on something that SOS could not help, is a legitimate issue, and one that by all reports Liddle was concerned by. Of course it's not the full...

Official Club Stuff 2020 Membership Tally - *67,035 - Final Tally as at 9th Sept 2020

I hate to rain on any conspiracy but I got my usual Carlton membership 'thank you for joining' email today, and I'm an AFL Member who has automatic rollover every year. I got the same email 3 December last year. The jump is pretty clearly just the AFL Members with Carlton club support who pay...

    Opinion Stephen Silvagni

People are calling for the sacking of Lloyd, Liddle, everyone - and this is exactly the danger of having someone like SOS in the role he's in at the club. If everyone else is the problem, maybe actually SOS is the problem. But because he's a favourite son people completely lose objectivity...

    Bluemour Melting Pot XXII

Of course they can. Both Hartley and Martin did on 11 November which was the date players are able to. They don't become free agents though. Re permission to train I imagine if Carlton and Martin sought permission then he'd be training at Carlton now. I've seen nothing to suggest the AFL...

I think it's perfectly fine for a coach to be annoyed that one of his players played organised sport without seeking permission.

    Bluemour Melting Pot XXII

Not anywhere near as bad as that, and it's definitely not every single athlete under the WADA Code (you don't think every SANFL, VFL player has to do it surely?). For the athletes that are forced to be part of the Whereabouts system, which is probably most if not all AFL players, they just have...
