  • Hi LL, PP here. I really like your Avatar. I think I remember you pinching a footy when Teaser kicked it over the Grandstand one Saturday afternoon. Was that you or was it our comical colleague bedders?? I remember drinking pots with bedders in the bowels of the Grandstand in 1985 when he decided it would be a good idea to sledge the lead singer from the Chantoozies. (Inexpicably, and in no uncertain terms, she asked bedders to remove himself and his smelly size 12 sneekers from the bar!!) It was quite a scene I must say... Not to be out done, bedders returned fire with: "No one turfs me out of my Sth Melbne". That was the last time old bedders frequented old Sth Melb. Bye for now. PP.
    Hi Ray,
Yes, tragically it is a photograph of of the only stand still remaining at the Lakeside Oval, the South Melbourne Cricket Club Members stand. It is now known as Bob Jane Stadium and South Melbourne Hellas (soccer club) use the ground as their home ground.
I have many fond boyhood memories of the ground and stand. As kids when South Melbourne / the Bloods were playing at home we would have great fun in trying to by pass the blue coat ticket checkers so we could all sit in the very back row of the stand and scream our lungs out for the bloods. After the 2005 Grand Final, Tony Morwood, General Manager of the Sydney Swans Melbourne Office organised for club legend Bob Skilton to ride a cherry picker to the top of the stand and unfurl a Sydney Swans 2005 Premiers flag which still flutters in the breeze above the stand.
