Anyone know if any video footage exists of this?

Can anyone help me with newspaper reports of the WA V Vic game of that carnival? I'm told there was an interesting fight in the crowd - but the memory may be faulty. Thanks!

It gets a few mentions on this page (but only has 8 or so minutes of highlights):- http://waflvideoarchive.webs.com/newadditions.htm
This has the 3rd quarter:- http://waflvideoarchive.webs.com/pre1980sfootage.htm

The Age has a reasonable coverage the following Monday. No mention of any crowd trouble.

The fight in the crowd that I remember was in 1977.

Archie Duda was at full forward.

Ancient bump Masai but you are right.

Behind the goals at the city end IIRC.

It carried on to the Vic Hotel post game as well.

The place was full of Big V supporters and the atmosphere was a little tense.

It was no surprise therefore when a bit of biffo started.

What made this memorable was the fact that it was one WA bloke against a
number of Vics (I think 4 of them) but this WA bloke was a monster.

My memory is not playing tricks but this guy was at least 6'10" in the old scales
and was built solid like Tony Lockett.

Had the crazy, implacable Lockett stare as well and the Vic blokes were justifiably terrified.

One Vic was desperately and pointlessly hanging off an arm while this monster was swinging haymakers at his mates.

I'm not ashamed to say I got out of there as quick as I could.

The monster was well known around the 1970's Perth night clubs as a bouncer (he was Middle
Eastern/Lebanese looking) so I am not sure if you are of the right vintage to know of him.

Never heard anything about the fight the next day so I assumed nobody was maimed.

As for Archie, I think it was David Dench that gave him a towelling that day.

Never got a sniff.

And I am an East Perth man too!

As for games, would love to see any game that had Laurie Nash, Dick Reynolds, Hayden Bunton
Snr and the young John Todd to see if reality satisfies the legend.
