Preliminary Finals:
City Oval Plovers $1.50 vs The Ladyboys $2.50
In the first preliminary final, we have the top team, the undefeated City Oval Plovers just one more win away from making the Grand Final. After a preliminary final loss last year, the Plovers will be keen to bounce back and make the big dance, especially given they have won 14 on the trot now. The Ladyboys on the other hand, have not missed a finals series and are familiar with preliminary final losses. After a big last month, The Ladyboys have the opportunity to do what no-one has done this season, and knock the Plovers off their perch and make a maiden Grand Final.
With the form The Ladyboys are currently in, anything is possible. WAG's side has come good at the right time of year despite injuries with some lesser household names such as Michael Rischitelli at utility and the incredible Patrick Cripps at inside mid. For the Plovers, Nat Fyfe is the star, but another incident on the weekend has him in hot water and might win the do-or-die clash, but David Mundy, Joel Selwood and Matthew Boyd are just some of the star talent also in that lineup. This is set to be a beauty and while the Plovers will go in favourites, The Ladyboys are not without a chance of an upset.
South-Eastern Polar Bears $1.40 vs Classy Gentlemen $2.60
In the other preliminary final, we have had two sides that have flown under the radar all season. The Polar Bears are consistently there abouts, and who could forget their agonising single digit loss in the Grand Final to the Mozzie Bites in season one. No-one could forget sr20's desperate calls to Ryan Griffen to tackle, but alas, it did not occur and the Polar Bears fell short. Three years later, the side has a chance to re-write history and help themselves to a main premiership.
For Classy Gentlemen, the side which has often just contained Richmond and interstate players, it has not yet made it further than the second week of the finals, despite making every finals series. This year is different after a good few weeks and, despite catching the Dragons minus a number of players, still got the job done by 20 points to secure a preliminary final spot. This week, they have the chance to knock off the Polar Bears and make the unthinkable - a Grand Final. While they will be outsiders, with Dustin Martin and Josh P. Kennedy leading the charge, anything is possible. This is set to be another fascinating clash.
Good luck everyone!
