Both had deficiencies in my opinion that are too great to be included in a best ever team. I’m going on reputation for Grigg! His CV on Wikipedia (always a reliable source) is impressive!
I agree. It's an impossible task but fun to debate nevertheless. I have a natural bias towards players I've seen. The last picked for me was Grigg. I was struggling to think of another modern day back pocket to accompany Smith and Scarlett. You'd probably throw up Ian Nankervis who was the...
I'm just looking at an "all time" Cats team.
Only saw Newman in his latter years when he was finished. My father rated him highly though. But Ottens took us to 3 flags - including the 2007 prelim where he was immense. He's in on that.
You could swap Davis and Bartel but Bartel wasn't really a wingman either though needs to be included imo.
You are probably correct re Danger/Hocking. I just loved Buddha so had a bias towards him named in the 18.
With regard to CGS v Haileybury, CGS lack a marking target up forward. Won enough in the middle but poor delivery and no target cost them. Haileybury were very impressive.
Mobile key forward is probably the best way of describing him. Good contested mark. Lovely left footer. Not a big build at this stage. More athletic in shape.
Dempsey was at Carey. Went back to footy after a doing well in basketball.
Stanley got balted by a second string ruck. It's not really much of a risk. I'd back him in.
Parfitt particularly disappointing. With him finally getting regular games you'd hope he'd have shown a lot more vigor.
Conway coming in for Stanley is an obvious one after that game. Stewart back in.
Paddy now out for a month. Like to see Hardie given an opportunity at some stage. Parfitt wouldn’t want another game like that one next week. There’s a few waiting in the wings.
Kid we should look at as a key forward, Harry Armstrong. Plays for Haileybury. Just watched the first half of them pantsing Caulfield and he’s very impressive. Not talked about currently as a high pick but has loads of ability. Had most of last year off footy with an infection.
