You are laying it on a tad thick lol but yeah apart from housing affordability and maybe job security I really struggle for one other reason why I would want to for example trade living as my age now with say 30 years ago instead of today. Otherwise things are way better and easier.
It was unaffordable to live by yourself in the early 2000s on Austudy/dole/1st yr apprentice wages. Even with just 1 other flatmate instead of 2 was a little challenging.
Hate to know what it's like now.

As someone that has been looking the last 18 months in Perth it's foremost a problem with demand massively outstripping demand. It's also become worse in that time frame as well.
Also no doubt real estate is usually a good solid investment long term but imo it's probably greatly overstated as...
