This is probably the worst batting performance I've seen from Australia, looked like some kind of bungled mad scientist experiment. They need an experienced head to guide them in India and I'm not sure McDonald is the man.
If they have to persist with Finch at least put him down the order, you can't afford out of form batters at the top of the order in T20. But he should retire, I don't see him improving from here.
Excellent innings by Stoinis. Also the worst not out innings I've ever seen from anyone by Finch, he's been a good player in the past but he isn't now. He needs to retire.
Sri Lanka's batting was pretty s**t tbh tonight, they don't have much hitting power. If we beat them we will only just, on this form AUstralia won't make it out of the group. I reckon Smith should come in for Finch and you place another of the power hitters at the top of the order.
Finch needs to be dropped after this match if Australia has any chance to be competitive in this tournament. You can't have someone scoring at well below a 100 SR at the top of the order in T20 - it puts insurmountable pressure on the rest of the batting order.
What do you all think of him as a coach? He seems quiet, understated and calm. Not the usual personality to be head coach. What influence do you think or even better know he has on the team?
Oh whoops I have :drunk:
I still think Agar would be the better choice of the choices we have atm if you want a second spin option. Sure he's not stellar with bat or ball but is solid at both.
Swepson definitely has talent, he just needs to find more control of where he lands the ball. He...
I think Swepson's worth another try but not in the next test. I think he bowls some very nice deliveries but they are interspersed with complete tripe. At the moment he's not really a test level bowler.
You raise an interesting question. Why isn't Agar playing? He averages 41 with the bat and 28 with the ball in first class cricket Ashton Agar profile and biography, stats, records, averages, photos and videos. With those stats he should be at least considered from time to time if not a regular...
It's a fair argument, we barely enforce the follow on nowadays so it's hard to know how we perform in that instance. Don't think the decision to bat again cost them the match though, if you can't bowl the other side out in 172 overs then that's a problem beyond tactics.
It made sense to not to enforce the follow on in terms of giving your bowlers a rest in the hot conditions and ensuring you don't bat last. The same thing could have happened enforcing the following on.
It's happened more times than I would have thought...surprised Inzamam isn't on the list.

I think we shouldn't enforce the follow on, so the bowlers can have a rest and and we can bat a couple of sessions while the pitch will continue to deteriorate.
