Coach Sam Mitchell's direction for the club and 2024 news

Unlike in 2005-6 (when it was blazingly obvious), I can't envision what our forward line is going to look like in even a year, let alone beyond that - will Lewis be a part of it, or will he be constantly in and out with injury (or even traded out)? Will Ramma be there? Is Chol just a stopgap...

Player Watch Welcome to Hawthorn, James Worpel, pick #43 2017 - Peter Crimmins medalist 2019

I know, I mean relative to his first three rounds where he was a focal point, and he didn't dip below 27 possies.

Player Watch Welcome to Hawthorn, James Worpel, pick #43 2017 - Peter Crimmins medalist 2019

It seems we saw this yet again yesterday, Duke and Nash stepped up, Worps went back into his shell a little. It's absolutely bizarre....

Coach Sam Mitchell - where is the pressure?

If you haven't seen the media blowtorch being applied to Sammy and us this week, you must be walking around with a blindfold on and your ears stuffed with cotton wool....

I'll take any win whatsoever right now, Roos or not. Imagine how we'll be feeling if we DON'T win this week......

Coach Sam Mitchell's direction for the club and 2024 news

Yep, an old coach (may have been Tony Jewell, but I'm not sure) said: 'you've gotta have the cattle', so yeah, that's a massive factor too.

Coach Sam Mitchell's direction for the club and 2024 news

I think the jury is still firmly out on Sammy as a coach. I'm neither falling all over myself to praise him and give him an extension nor ready to offload him. I do think a lot about the 'favourite son' thing though. Since the 70s, it's been.... Jeans - non-Hawthorn person - massively...

Welcome Welcome to Hawthorn : Lloyd Meek

I'd love to see Meek and Reeves working in tandem. Reeves needs more gametime, I'm still confident he's going to be a monster one day. Big blokes take longer, enormous blokes take even longer than that. So far (last year) that just didn't seem to work, unfortunately. Failing that, I'd love to...

Player Watch Welcome to Hawthorn, James Worpel, pick #43 2017 - Peter Crimmins medalist 2019

I love Worps, always have. Even during his slump I knew he would turn it around (he’s too good not to), when so many people were doubting him and writing him off…

    Hardwick as a forward 2024

Just as you must not judge a player on a poor game or two, we must not go ga-ga over a player on the basis of one single awesome performance. He got off the chain once, yes, and it was quite superb to see, yes. Let’s see him do something similar four or five times before we start proclaiming him...

Preview Round 5, 2024: Suns v Hawks, 7:30pm Sat 13th April, People First Stadium

Frost is indeed having a surprisingly good year, but one decent big defender doesn't go into two, or three. If we had Frost in this form, plus Blancky down there, all would be well and groovy. But we don't....

Still no sign of Phillips this week, do we think? Why did we grab him?

    What are you currently watching?

Agreed 150%. Anyone who whines about that stuff does not understand the difference between the two mediums.

Coach Sam Mitchell's direction for the club and 2024 news

It seems like Dimma might be used in future the way he was today, a pure swingman. Starts back, and Sammy can swing him forward if we need a spark there...

    Preview Round 4, 2024 : Collingwood v Hawks, 5:10pm Sunday 7th, Adelaide Oval

They obviously feel he's ready to some extent, so just needs games under his belt. Mitch going down (again) may be somewhat of a blessing in disguise. Have said before, if we can develop him into a new version of Haley, that'd be a massive plus.

Player Watch Welcome to Hawthorn, James Worpel, pick #43 2017 - Peter Crimmins medalist 2019

He's had no fewer than 27 possies in any game so far this year. Please let that continue.

Player Watch Welcome to Hawthorn: Mitchell Lewis. Extended to 2026!

Agreed. So many players get written off like this and the writer-offer ends up looking like a total moron.

Player Watch Welcome to Hawthorn, James Worpel, pick #43 2017 - Peter Crimmins medalist 2019

He seems to perform better when he's more of a focal point of the midfield - Titch out, steps up, has an awesome year, wins the PCM; Titch comes back, experiences a form slump; Titch leaves, but Duke and Day step up, has a solid year but not as good as his PCM year; Duke down a little on form...

Player Watch Welcome to Hawthorn, James Worpel, pick #43 2017 - Peter Crimmins medalist 2019

I've seen him written off, people have said he's trade bait, just filling in time before we complete our midfield etc etc. It just goes to show how utterly ridiculous it is to write someone like him off, and how little football knowledge some people have. If this is you, and you know who you...

Game Day Round 4 vs. Hawthorn, Adelaide Oval, 5:10pm Sun 07/04 (Gather Round)

Without looking it up, and please do correct me if I'm wrong, but I doubt you were that dominant over us in the 70s, considering we won three flags from four GF appearances that decade (that decade always gets overshadowed by what came after, for some reason, but that's still a pretty damn handy...
