Autopsy The not even The Bont, Libbas and Jones' heroics can drag us over the line against the cats thread

The stats show a very clear discrepancy in contested possessions too. English kills Stanley in everything except for hitouts and one-percenters. And he actually beats Stanley in hitouts anyway! To be honest, I'm not 100% disagreeing with you. When you say "Rhys Stanley has always been a bad...

Autopsy The not even The Bont, Libbas and Jones' heroics can drag us over the line against the cats thread

I've lowered my expectations for the team too. I see us very much in a mini-rebuild mode for a year or two. The annoying thing is that Sanders cost us this year's 1st rounder as well so there's no upside at all to a so-so year.

Autopsy The not even The Bont, Libbas and Jones' heroics can drag us over the line against the cats thread

I'm totally confused what you think those stats are proving other than Tim English is a more complete player than Rhys Stanley. They certainly don't prove Stanley plays any more physically or more strongly than English. He doesn't get more clearances or make more tackles than English. FWIW, I...

Autopsy The not even The Bont, Libbas and Jones' heroics can drag us over the line against the cats thread

Sanders was at least involved in the play and applying pressure right till the end of the game. Gallagher was very quiet in the 2nd half so I probably would have subbed him out. By the way I'm not having a go at him - he's obviously still developing. But he might be due for a spell soon.

Autopsy The not even The Bont, Libbas and Jones' heroics can drag us over the line against the cats thread

Obviously Libba and Bont were out of this world. But I want to pay tribute to a few people who have gotten less love in this thread. 1. Treloar has put together his best 4 game stretch for us, at a time he should be easing up. He was immense tonight. 2. Cody Weightman is on his way to becoming...

Review Dogs choke the life out of The Eagles

Also is it just me or did we have a LOT of high quality tap-ons today? I don't know what stat that comes under. But unless my mind is playing tricks on me, I think it made a huge difference.

Gotta love Sanders on 49 pressure points. For a 1st year player that is super elite.

    Traded Dogs trade #10, #17 and F1 to Gold Coast for #4, #46, #51 and F3

THIS. It's not like it's an illogical move. But it's too clever by half. I also think we are likely to be worse next year, not better. Trading away next year's pick 6-8 isn't going to look so good in hindsight.

What They're Saying - The Bulldogs Media Thread - Part 4

Our recent success has merited quite a number of mentions lately that I've seen - not talking about us directly of course, but talking about how Port beat us and so that is evidence that they are very good. lol. (To be clear I CGAF if they mention us. I like moving under the radar. But it is funny.)

Also not sure how OG going on a session is going to be helping me out. But it's nice to keep us in the loop, I guess!

    Review Bulldogs belt Crows 85 - 40

Thanks as always OG. If you're taking requests, I have two for you. 1) When was the last time we lost clearances by more than 10 and yet won the game by more than 5 goals? (I would love to know how we pulled that off.) 2) How are those kicking efficiency stats now looking for the season and...

Who would have thought Caleb Daniel would have a lower Kicking Efficiency % than Lobb and Naughton!?

What are you talking about? I think it's great - and the natural home for Gather round next year is surely the Western Suburbs of Melbourne!

    Autopsy Port beat Dogs 70-56

Power presumably nutted out the details of the trade. But it's possible he did the best he could. I'm presuming he did the best he could with Dunkley - I just don't know. We held a very weak hand there. But SOMEONE decided that Lobb was worth whatever price we would pay for him, and...

    Autopsy Port beat Dogs 70-56

Don't want to sidetrack the thread, but getting Lobb was a diabolical call. I genuinely can't believe they made it. It is NOT hindsight to say that was an awful idea. No fan who has watched Lobb play very much thought it was anything but a mystery at the time. I am going to be following the...

List Mgmt. The Missing Middle Tier - Why we are headed for a rebuild

That's a great point. I didn't consider Adams, Williams, Young or Lipinski to have quite made it to B Grade. But I can understand why you disagree, and they are a lot closer to B Grade than anyone we've drafted post pick 20 since. Your point about trading out actual or potential B Graders and...

List Mgmt. The Missing Middle Tier - Why we are headed for a rebuild

I would quibble with a few of your gradings - but only in a very minor way (e.g. I would say Vandermeer has a ceiling of B and Baker has a ceiling of C). Overall I would say your analysis is spot on though. The only thing that's surprising to me is that people were so gung-ho on this list 5...

    Autopsy Port beat Dogs 70-56

We obviously have all kinds of issues - your inside 50 stats are very revealing, Oliver. But don't go past our 4th quarter pressure gauge for why we lost. 171 is pathetic in the wet.

    Autopsy Port beat Dogs 70-56

I feel like Macrae has been waning for almost 12 months. I'm starting to think he might be declining early. He was never pacy, but he is definitely getting slower, and defending with less power than he used to. I suspect that is WHY he is being eased out of the engine room this year, rather than...

Coach Do you still have any faith in Bevo? [POLL]

Yes, Bevo played him as a forward. But that doesn't mean he's a natural forward. I thought your whole argument is that Bevo plays people in the wrong positions.

Coach Do you still have any faith in Bevo? [POLL]

I'm not sure I'd call Stringer a forward. He's always been more of a mid without a tank. But Dickson is a fair point. My bad on that score.

Coach Do you still have any faith in Bevo? [POLL]

He even plays Aaron Naughton in the forward line! He even played an entire forwardline of non-forwards in 2016 and look how terribly that turned out! Dude, who are the forwards that he is not playing in the forward line that you think should be played there? Surely Bevo has NEVER had enough...

    Let's talk about... Bailey Smith

I suspect his defensive spirit was probably impacted by a few suspensions he attracted a little while back. His defensive shortcomings are less my concern right now though than his terrible kicking. He is currently responsible for the worst kicking inside 50 from an established midfield star...

Oppo Camp Spoonride 2023: ‘Like Fitzroy and Bears of Old’. Brisbane’s First Round Pick.

I know we're not supposed to wish for injuries. But can we at least pray that every Bears player turns into Eric Hipwood?

Thanks Oliver. You're a champion - and the most precious resource on this board. I love this table. I can't get enough of these kinds of stats. 1) It really showcases how valuable Libba is, when you stack him up against Mr Defence Dunkley. Libba has to do everything for us - he wins ball, he...

Review Dogs beat Brions 67-53, JUH kicks 5

Thanks for posting these. There are a lot of interesting elements in these stats - 1) Adam Treloar owned clearances with 9. A 30 year old appears to be our new, up-and-coming clearance champ, which I'm slightly worried about (it was supposed to be Bailey Smith this year, wasn't it?). But they...

Review Dogs beat Brions 67-53, JUH kicks 5

Interesting that it wasn't so much that we were manic with pressure but they were slack with pressure. It may be that the story of that match was that Brisbane still travel poorly. I have noticed that our form very often seems to be inversely proportional to our opponent's pressure ratings. Our...

Review Dogs beat Brions 67-53, JUH kicks 5

It's a fair point that it seems a bit silly to talk about moving on a coach on who has never performed worse than 10th, while getting the team into 2 GFs and winning one. It is reminiscent of St Kilda considering moving Ross Lyon on (before he moved them on) when he had never performed worse...

I like Garcia too. And he couldn't have tried harder tonight. That was WHY he committed so many indiscretions. But that's not my concern about him. He will get that sorted out. My problem with him is his concrete hands and panicking when things get tight. You can always rely on Garcia to fumble...
