this issue popped up today for the first time already.
My son got a slight knock in a Colts internal scratch match, we didn't really have our usual medical staff on hand as it was more of a training session and he reported to the bench and was told not to go back on.
Wasn't declared concussed...
I made the suggestion to HQ to do away with interchange gates in u13 and u15 footy, makes it much easier to get kids on and off the ground.
They liked it, but felt it was too late to implement.
I made the suggestion in October last year.
Morningside essentially puts their Colts team out there, it was a waste of time, not sure it achieved much at all.
Lions removed their best players like Gilder, Gillet, Annable, Geesu, Lillico etc after 1 quarter. But they used about 50 kids (pic attached)
Margin was 95 points from memory...
i can't recall ever seeing a water carrier do anything wrong other than perhaps the occasional 'coaching' which is a no no, but really - who gives a s**t?
Agree, though I would argue 95% of the heavy lifting for this growth comes from the clubs.
Yes Auskick is a great gateway to our game.
We promote it, run it, supply all the coaches and volunteers for it, do the administration, visit schools etc
Other than provide a platform (playhq) for...
To be fair, and I'm not sure on the other clubs - but there has never been a time where Sherwood footy club has been based on Sherwood.
I think the name came from the fact that the initial teams back in the 50's all came from Sherwood state school kids, so even though they originally played in...
there were a few years there where you didn't have to have Colts in the QAFL, but UQ always had them anyway. They kept messing with the age group (mainly for one particular club if I remember correctly) and then in Sandgates last year in the comp, they didn't have Colts.
Ever since then it has...
not sure they would tell us. We asked if Coorparoo were coming in at a QAFL meeting and were told nothing to see here, then a few weeks later they were announced as joining in 2025.
Would be unbelieveable if they got a 2nd side up after we were denied a few years back, and other teams also...
When Sandgate dropped out, AFLQ were pushing for Div 1 teams to have Colts.
Now they are not allowed them.
I know its hard to keep up...bit like whether or not you are allowed 2 x Friday night teams.
Nothing like us.
Sherwood has been Sherwood since 1956 in juniors.
They started seniors in 1966.
However in 1974, moved to current location and shared a border with Western Districts.
Sherwood were SQAFA and Wests were QAFL. Issue was that in the 70s, Sherwood were the biggest junior footy...
Ridiculous situation.
Changing the name is stupid, splitting the club is stupid, trying to forget 15 years of hard slog, more stupid.
Let's hope sanity prevails, but will never answer a call or assist "Greenbank Giants" in any way if it doesn't.
You are allowed one on that arrangement.
I thought only half their payments counted, but a former footy director at another QAFL club told me yesterday he thinks it's capped at 10k.
So if you pay 40k, it's 10k coaching and 30k in the playing cap. Leaves you 50k for the rest of the list.
Can only take him at face value, he'd be getting well over 40k based on our discussions with him.
Would have to use the perfectly legal Assistant Coach loophole to make that work.
I'm not suggesting anyone is cheating.
I'm just saying nobody is struggling. If someone were cheating, the pressure is on another clubs morals, not their finances.
I don't think anyone is financially struggling.
There are rules that govern what you can spend, all the clubs have acknowledged they can afford to spend that.
If someone spends more than that, it doesn't mean another club is struggling, they are just playing by the rules.
Up to AFLQ to...
No, she had no academy link to either Suns or Lions. She played as a kid in Mackay until u14s, then gave it away for same old reason that there was no girls footy for her.
She then played cricket for Australia, elite level soccer and softball and was invited down to Sherwood in the pre-season...
we did the same, though a few coaches still managed to convince us to have a bit of a run around as long as it was made ultra clear its very very optional.
Only one of them is a Test cricketer of any regularity, and 3-4 of them are regular first class cricketers. That is my definition of top-line cricket.
I think you'll find the resources available at the top AIC schools are pretty similar. Lauries is the biggest boys school in Queensland...
Hope he plays 100+, not just the one.
Absolutely great human being, couldn't find a more deserving bloke of such an opportunity, and hes well and truly earnt it.
This is not correct at all. Very few topline cricketers come through the GPS system.
I actually attended IGS back in the 90's and we played Aussie Rules then, and even played against BBC and Churchie at the time.
Fast forward 25 years and the GPS schools are actively trying to avoid playing...
