Preview 2024 Rd 11 Carlton vs Gold Coast Saturday 25th May 1:45PM AEST @ Marvel Stadium

Heading to LA tomorrow for a couple of weeks so will miss the Suns/Port games. I've been off the Blues for a few weeks now so it's a good time for me to have a spell. Last game I enjoyed watching was against GWS. Hopefully we get a couple of bodies and our mojo back over the next couple of...

Injury Russell your feathers - discuss all things high performance; injury lists, Marvel surface, curse from the gods and Andrew Russell

The Blues previously worked with John Donehue (runs a BJJ academy) over a decade ago as a tackling/grappling coach. He worked for Melbourne Storm as well. Might be time to call him back.

Autopsy 2024 Rd 10 Pack up the tents, we're going home. Swans smash Blues.

I've taken 12+ hours to reflect on last night before reading/posting anything. The conclusion for me is that I can still can't really tell how far off it we are given that a third of the side should be playing VFL. I think the issues we've had this year are still fundamentally system-based...

The Cez-hammy thing reminds me of Ryan Giggs in his prime. He was always pinging the bloody things and nearly retired at 27 because of it. The good news is that a change in training methods (hello) and diet enabled him to play until the age of 40. Yoga was crucial in him staying on the park.

He's more the type that thinks he's smart but doesn't realise he's actually thick as pigsh*t and everyone else knows it. My lasting memory of him is from the NFL tailgate event and him standing on his own in the middle of a massive marquee about 150m in length with about 2000-3000 media people...

Agreed. They appeared to try a few on Trac last night without success. I think Gov, Newman, and Cowan each had a crack at different times. Newman finally got him in the end....thankfully. Walshy's post-match comments last night about missing the assignment on Daicos last week was pretty...

I had to chaperone Darcy, Eddie & Mick at Superbowl 50 pre-game media tailgate. He's quite possibly the most vacuous person I've met.

Just finished watching the Replay. Confirmed a lot of what I thought I saw at the ground re: lack of spread from about halfway thru the 3rd. We put the cue in the rack as we were knackered and tried to hang on for the last 20 minutes thinking we'd done enough. Technically, that's true I guess...

Autopsy 2024 Rd 9 Blues hold on in 1 point thriller

The Thursday night thing is definitely TV-ratings driven. Attendances are an afterthought/bonus. An AFL/Channel 7 delegation (one of many) came over circa 2016 for an NFL Network briefing on the success of Thursday Night Football and I remember the analytics popping across my desk at one point...

Still can't really believe what I was seeing in the last quarter. I'll have to watch the replay today with an analytical lens, but from up on Level 4 it just looked like we completely shut down all run and carry options in the last. Melbourne just went man-to-man all over the park and let us...

Hewett as sub for mine. He looked to be nursing his ongoing neck/back issues the last couple of weeks but I haven't seen him down the rehab gym with us old blokes for the last month or so, which is a good sign.

Saad & McGovern are crucial to Williams being effective off half-back. We've seen what happens without them. Those two will at least lock on an opponent where needed lessening the defensive burden on others. Williams can't, or won't defend properly and you can probably only carry one "free...

Preview 2024 Rd 9 Carlton vs Melbourne Thursday 9th May 7:30PM @ MCG

I think it comes down to forward and midfield defensive pressure for us this week. If it's more of the same (i.e., less than zero), we're toast. Once the ball gets outside from the contest or on the turnover we can't stop teams in transition. Our lack of footspeed and/or defensive effort is...

Autopsy 2024 Rd 8 Disappointing loss for Blues

Having slept on the result my thoughts are still the same this morning: we are often outcoached but have a talent advantage over most sides that allows us to overcome weaker teams. We had zero idea how to handle Collingwood's pressure game. Voss is fine as a motivator, but needs a tactician in...

Injury Blue Healers Discussion - 2024

Yep. I'm a Kieser client also and it's been life changing. When I started there 18 months my physio (ex-Carlton) was very clear that it's often a "2 or 3 Steps forward, 1 step back" road to recovery which has very much been the case. Scans will tell them where the issue lies and the rehab will...

Jack Martin was on my flight to Canberra last week. Pretty easy to spot as he rocked up in full Carlton training gear. He travels up there a lot for specialist treatment. Couldn't spot where they connect the gaffa tape and string that holds him together.

Autopsy 2024 Rd 5 Blundering Blues give game away to Crows

The ruck dilemma (well, Pitto), small forward pressure (lack thereof), and a couple of injuries to pillars of our defence hurt us. Combine that with a touch of arrogance in the last after we got three goals up to a team with zero to lose, and you get pantsed. From our vantage at centre-wing...

Universal Love Footy Related Things we are still cranky about -

Scum should have been deregistered after doping almost their entire list. They knew what they were doing was questionable at best, intentionally illegal at worst. Good luck to anyone with a 1-week injury or is a late withdrawal moving forward, whether legitimate or not. The easiest solution operationally is probably zero tolerance if you want to send a message to players but that opens up a different can of worms. If it really is a minority of players...

Hot Topic Off The Books Illicit Drug Test Claims in Bombshell AFL ‘Cover-Up’ - Injuries Faked To Evade Game Day Detection

This is straight out of the NFL playbook (I worked there). We would have AFL delegations come over to see how we ran football operations and no doubt this type of thing was on the table. What normal folks consider "dark arts" are business as usual there when it comes to keeping young assets on...

All good. I'm a client there. It's not exactly a covert thing as you could walk past most days and spot a footy player thru the windows rehabbing next to an 80 year old grannie....or Tim Watson. 🤣

Injury Blue Healers Discussion - 2024

Unsurprised by any of that. Folks expecting certainty on his type of injury are going to be disappointed. He could be good to go Week 4, but out of action Week 5 if he pulls up sore. It's just the nature of nerve-related back injuries and it can take years to fully recover (if at all)...

Injury Blue Healers Discussion - 2024

This article sums up the hit-and-miss aspects of Walsh's situation pretty well. It was a fairly new type of procedure (at least in Aust.) that he underwent and studies have shown a high rate of reinjuring in athletes that come back too soon, the high risk of prolapsing or herniating a disc in...

Injury Blue Healers Discussion - 2024

Repeating myself a bit, but we supporters will need to be patient with Walshy and the medics. His type of injury is very difficult to get right and the club will know that. Anyone who has been down that particular road to recovery knows it is long and there are a lot of setbacks. It's why the...

Injury Blue Healers Discussion - 2024

The issue with Walshy's type of back injury is that surgery tends to have around a 60% chance of success and it's something he'll probably have to manage for the rest of his life (or until better surgical options become available). Pain doesn't necessarily mean he's making the injury worse as...
