Was thinking about this today watching the Freo game, Richo would have to be the neutral's most well liked player in the league, wouldn't he?
I used to love it whenever Richmond came to subi, as it'd always be great value sledging him over the fence to try and get inside his head. Still look forward to the fixture for that reason, but as the years go on you just have to shake your head and admire him for the way he goes about his footy.
He goes through dizzying highs and painful lows all in the space of 4 quarters, but despite years of disappointment he's never burnt out and still rocks up each week with a grin on his face and ready for another ride on the emotional rollercoaster- although he learns to bottle it up a little bit better nowadays, nobody hurts quite so much when a ball carries over their head or a dodgy umpiring decision goes against them, and nobody is quite so happy when they're on song and their side is winning as Richo is. Add to that the fact he's quite simply the best contested mark in the league over the last decade, and he's by far the most entertaining act in football. Hope against hope he'll get one chance at a finals before his career's up, because he deserves it more than anyone.
We've probably only got 2-3 years left of him now, and I don't intend to miss a minute of it. Matthew Richardson, you have my man love.
