Cleared of serious damage, returns to running this week

  • Bombers rejoicing as important cog set to return

Essendon expects tall forward Peter Wright to resume running this week after being cleared of serious injury following a scare at training last week.

The Bombers confirmed Wright had only experienced tightness in his calf, which the club said had settled well over the players’ short late-January break.

Wright gave Bombers’ fans a scare last Wednesday when he left the training track early during the club’s match simulation session with a calf issue.

Precautionary scans have since cleared the 203cm forward of any serious damage to his calf.

After a five-day break, the Bombers’ players will return to the club on Tuesday.

The Bombers said Wright was expected to be back running this week.

    Other reports say dislocated shoulder
  • Shoulder dislocation confirmed, sent for scans
  • This was posted 1.30 yesterday, don’t think it made it into this thread.

Confirms dislocation and that he was sent for scans. Hopefully the club does another update today about whether he’s going to need surgery or something…
Key forward Peter Wright dislocated his shoulder at training this morning after landing awkwardly in a marking contest.

He won’t play against Hawthorn on Sunday.

He has been sent for scans this afternoon with the results to dictate the next course of action for him. The club will work through rehab options in the coming days.

Sent for surgery, should be back after the bye
  • "Surgery went smoothly"
  • In a sling for two weeks, then starts the rehab program
  • Key forward Peter Wright has undergone successful surgery on his right shoulder.

The reigning Crichton medallist had the procedure to repair damage from a shoulder dislocation and will have his arm immobilised before commencing a rehabilitation program.

“Pete had shoulder surgery on Monday and all went well,” McPherson said.

“He’ll be in a sling for the next two weeks, and then we’ll be able to commence his rehab program after that.”

2022 Crichton medallist, Peter Wright edges closer to a return, however, it will not be in Essendon's round 11 clash with North.

"Whether it’s before or after the bye is yet to be determined, but he won't play this week." McPherson said.

Forward Peter Wright is putting his best foot forward to be available for Essendon’s blockbuster round 13 clash with Carlton on Sunday.

The reigning Crichton medallist is looking to play his first game of 2023 after overcoming the shoulder injury which struck him down just days before round one.

General Manager of Performance Daniel McPherson says Wright’s participation in main sessions is pushing the 26-year-old closer to a return.

“Pete joined in main training last week and will do so again this week ahead of a potential return against the Blues,” McPherson said.

“Pete’s the ultimate professional, and has worked incredibly hard over the last few months to get himself back to this point. We’ll get through this week’s main training session, and make the final decision after that.”

Plantar fascia, expecting a modified start to the preseason
  • haha he was playing with a plantar fascia injury at the end of last year. Christ.

Expecting a modified start to the preseason.
Peter Wright managed a plantar fascia injury in his foot towards the end of the season and although he will have a potentially modified start of the pre-season, that period is expected to be short

Modified running program, will re-join main training in the coming weeks
