Alright, the individual accolades have been decided so it's time for this years AA side to be presented. There are still people rather stiff to miss out, despite the debate over the Bay's 2010 form.
Once again, I'm only going to go with the playing squad, so feel free to disect and debate changes, or expand to a squad of 40 to make notable mentions. So, without further ado, time to announce this years team..
LBP: Plugger35 - Solid season in defense. Was often the man to arrive on the scene to offer his mates a chop out, and worked manfully under some serious pressure. Did his best to drive some attack as well. A consistent performer over the years, and that consistency has resulted in an AA step up to the starting side. Unlike many of his mates, he didn't go missing come finals time.
FB: gopower - Clearly this years form backman. Consistently attracted the prime flogs and shut them down. A man with a no nonsense type attitude and application, he regularly cut off attacking moves that looked destined to score. Doesn't cede to reputation, and plays his man on his merits. Chances are, if it's coming his way, he'll make the contest his.
RBP: Biffinator - Unlike many of his peers, he didn't accumulate stats with lazy, cheap possessions. Where he was quite clearly done on the stats sheet this year, he quite clearly beat his opponents on the field. Defensively underrated, he very rarely let a goal slip through. Once he takes possession, it can just go on, and on, and on, and on. Lovely method to the madness though, and the scoring drive that came off his boots couldn't be denied.
LHB: Al Quaeda - A fantastic season after returning from an extended layoff. Answered the questions about whether he'd still be up to it very early on, displaying the attacking flair that made him famous to begin with. The ramping up of the defensive side of his game has been his ticket to AA selection. Not only did he provide some wonderful drive in attack, but he did so at tactically opportune times, never running off and simply leaving opponents to do damage going the other way.
CHB: Duritz (vc) - Another good season from a bloke doing his job manfully, in a side down on its 2009 form. Displayed great leadership once again, in responding to his teams need for someone to go back into defense that could still take a grab, and use the ball. Stood firm in the face of serious opposition, whilst dealing with his sides fall from grace. Despite the team issues, he still racked up an impressive count individually.
RHB: Gus - Where McLemon wouldn't shake hands, Gus would've offered Kirky a beer after the game. Made a serious fist of pacifying many a would be opponent with his affable nature, and where those opponents came away feeling not so bad for the loss, fact remained they lost. A specialist at taking momentum from his opponent, many times he'd simply strip his man of the ball and dish off before his opposite number realised he'd been done.
LW: Bandwagon2010 - The only 2010 draftee of any note, Bandwagon came rollicking out of the Korio Bay roadhouse and into the Bay in grand fashion. Showed good dash, and some serious creativity. Showed many of his more senior peers up as list cloggers, and set a form line that showed how woeful the rest of the 2010 draft was.
C: Rudeurrection - Anything but the quiet type, he'd do anything he could to get under the oppositions skin, and once there, he'd stay as long as he could. Racked up some serious numbers this year, and did a lot of the grunt work for his side. Worked well both ways, and distributed a lot of ball for those around him to work with.
RW: KruZin - Slowed down a bit this year amid speculation he was being wooed by a start up franchise. Despite confirming the speculation about the marquee shift, he came to an arrangement where he didn't leave the bay out in the cold. Nowdays he brings the skills of one to the other, and vice versa. Despite the increased workload, he's lost none of his potency, and has shifted to the wing this year, where his creative flair can be exploited in a much more free wheeling manner.
LHF: oogac - Silky skills were on display for all to see, and he did it all this year, leaving friend and foe alike wondering what would come next. The kind of player that gets the turnstiles clicking. Quick off the mark and works hard both ways, but it's his outstanding attacking flair, and ability to kick the freakish goals, the supporters pay their money to see.
CHF: Tyler Durden007 - An experienced campaigner in a side on the ebb. Carried the torch where many of his teammates flagged this year, highlighting his own talents in the process. Regularly left those marking him wondering what the hell was going on, while he'd push off to add another goal to one of his multiple bags.
RHF: Hodgepodge - Another outstanding season in attack, producing fantastic numbers and, once again, leaving many an opponent feeling well and truly sorry for themselves. His workrate is arguably the best in the comp, and whilst it doesn't mean he'll win every contest, chances are he'll deliver.
LFP: wambat - The perfect loudmouthed pest everyone loves to hate (unless they play alongside him). Swallowed a lifetime supply of angry pills at birth and, rather than disipate, the chemical bonds seem to have meshed with his DNA. Has an impressive attacking record, and really doesn't care who he plays on. All opponents are shown a distinct lack of respect.
FF: Floyd - An inspired season, delivering some real magic in front of goals. Despite a throng of flogs attempting to quiet his influence, he delivered goal after goal, very rarely missing an opportunity. His posession count may not have been that high, but he made every single one of them count. One of those rare types that very few opposition supporters have a bad word for.
RFP: It Was A Good Day - Reward for a more consistent season. Fills the suspect attacking tiprat slot beautifully, and tends to stick to his guns. In the fine tradition of AA forward pockets he went missing on the big stage, but this team isn't selected on finals form. Not really a lot of competition in his role, mostly because these types are generally one trick ponies.
RM: The Night Shift - Another solid season in the middle from last years AA big man. Knows how to get the ball moving his way, and loves to follow up, whether it be to attack, or swat some poor, unsuspecting, running player to the ground. While he had a good all up season, he revelled particularly in the dismal showing of his cross town rivals, rubbing salt into the wounds at every chance.
RR: D_One (c) - In what is really starting to take on its national identity as a competition, this bloke is a throwback to the era of suburban footy, taking absolute glee in smashing into his local rivals. The man just never stops racking up the stats. Sure, a great deal of them may seem completely irrelevant, but once he's finished, you'll know just how important they are. Whenever his side looked in serious trouble, he'd invariably step up to the plate, leading the charge, and dragging his mates along with him. This years standout leader.
R: TheBrownDog - Despite being recruited by the laws of the game committee, TBD has continued to play the game as he always has, hard and fair. Took the pressure on himself by publicly supporting a wayward new addition, and did his utmost to ensure success. Ultimately let down by the team, including said wayward addition, his own work was up to his usual high standards.
INT: PieBeast, Bayer, Mofra, Toots Hibbert
EMG: clogwearer, YouDontKnowJack, Stronzo
There will be a cruise on the Yarra for the team to celebrate. Please bring your own handcuffs if you wish to initiate any of the first time selections. If anyone gets out of line, a senior player will be there to give you a friendly 'now now, behave' punch in the mouth. If you do end up taking a young lady home, please be sure she blinks twice for yes before making a move, and make sure you take your accountabilibuddy in with you.
Please note: All pets are strictly prohibited, unless they like to party.
