Retired #31: Dustin Fletcher - Legend & VFL Assistant Coach

Your post alludes to him saying he should have missed the Dreamtime game.

Thats how i interpreted it.
Absolutely. An away game, dreamtime, subbed v Briz, thought it was a no- brainer myself. Now he's out for Geelong , a home game which would've been packed to bursting point.

Well that would of worked well wouldn't it?

Hird last night basically confirmed his retirement, hope he can get past KB's games record. How many do you think he will finish on? Will we see him again?

Yeah, im pretty keen for Fletcher to get back into the team. Any word on a possible return? Is he training?

Put a stupid bet on...Both him and Boomer to surpass KBs 403 games.
Following week - injured...Not heard a peep about him for next 3 weeks.

Not a word about this little brat. Looks like a smitten little school boy when Richo was asking him about the week being all about him.

Possibly my most hated opposition player

Word is they are looking to get him back for the last round as a farewell game for him, Winderlich & Chapman. Unlikely to play before that.

farewell games against Richmond and Magpies in round 22 and 23?
it'd be good to finish off against some of the bigger Victorian clubs

Wanted him to stay and break games record. Seems injuries have done him and harvey would break his record anyway.

Give him a good farewell and offer him a coaching role.

I don't see why we need to offer him a coaching role.

Because he has 400 games of afl experience and has still shown a great capacity to read the play. I don't see why we'd want to lose that experience and knowledge. And when i say coaching role, i mean something like a specialist defenders coach in the vein of lloyd (unless he has shown aptitude for more)

I agree that he's the best defender I've seen. I also think he'll have plenty of knowledge to pass on because despite of his natural abilities of speed, kicking and height it really was all about smarts.

I would love having the professional line coaches with Lloyd giving the KPFs some tips and Fletch giving the KPDs some tips.

Fletch only has time for a part time position because he and his Mrs need to be doing the boys' homework and putting the finishing touches on their football development!

yaco55 Because he is the best defender in the history of the game and can train up 6 of himself to dominate for 20 years to come.

Fletcher will go to another club if he's serious about coaching.

Dustin Fletcher's Wikipedia page is an absolute discrace for the games longest serving player. It would be great if someone could update it to make it worthy of him. You know, add in some actual detail instead of 5 vauge events each 10 years apart. I'd do it but I know almost nothing about Dustin Fletcher pre 2012.
