This week ODN and ShanDog are joined by the returning HappyDude to dissect the loss to Melbourne in round 2, talk about some players who are on fire and under the pump and preview the upcoming game against Essendon. Things get a little heated towards the end and ShanDog is now a few dollars poorer after making some donations to the BigFooty Blues Swear Jar.

Got a mate in London doing a sports management course at uni... Essendon is the case study on how not to run your club.
we found a use for them

Just an aside

As someone who has done a bit of martial arts, open hand or closed fist makes minimal difference to impact, it's most significant importance is the extension of reach.

Slamming someone in the head with a palm can definitely knock them out.

Video evidence provided (also a whole bunch of other Bas Rutten goodness)

I use Bas Ruttens audio MMA workout tracks. Love em.

And yep, 100% correct. There's a lot of keyboard warriors out there who don't have a clue about things like this as well as injuries. Based on o line comments, you'd be forgiven for thinking the majority of the population are professional fighters who moonlight as orthopedic surgeons in their spare time.

The real question is does a palm strike have a lower chance of fracture for the assailant
Maybe, but i would guess only at the point of impact. The movement of bones like the lower jaw after being hit with force could cause fractures and damage just through strains on the skeleton and joints. Case in point - bend a finger backwards from the joint until it snaps. See how much it hurts.

By assailant, I mean the person throwing the strike

"you don't go full Melbourne you morons"

Peterevski-Seton, Williamson, Silvagni, Weitering, Macreadie, Pickett & Marchbank all played yesterday and are in their first or second season of senior footy. We also have C. Curnow & Cuningham who have played seniors plus Fisher showed his wares in the JLT series.

There's nearly half a team's worth of young players who have demonstrated that they are more than capable of playing at senior level.

Yesterday's win clearly showed that young players bring an infectious attitude and a genuine will to win, this also inspires the older players to do more too.

The point being made is you don't introduce them all at once. You phase them in. That is exactly what we are doing.

Marchbank and Pickett are third year year players but yes, the rest are pretty new. 'Not going full Melbourne' means not trading out all your senior players and stacking the field with skinny first and second year players who literally don't have the frame to be playing yet.

From what I read back then, most people were advocating a similar thing especially as players like Thomas were in the horrors at the time.
