Not happy that Adarius Glanton was cut. I would have cut AJ before him. Glanton played well last year, Klien has gone backwards since his rookie season.

We cut 2 of our free agent signings. Both were special team specialists but I still find that funny.

Actually 3 because we cut Boykin as well.

The cuts show a lot of faith in Norwood, who I'm hugely skeptical of.

I shouldn't doubt Gettleman because he's generally done well with the moves he's made since he's been here but i get the feeling he's starting to out think himself. Trying to be too clever.

Yea, Glanton is the one I'm pissed about, he will be a good LB somewhere. Should have no problem finding a new home.

Other than that, i fine with the roster.

As you said BB, goal #1, more WR depth or upgrade.

Joe Webb's impressive pre season could be a blessing, he will have some decent trade value as a back up somewhere right now (although I'm sure Cam doesn't want him to go), perhaps we deal him for a decent WR after we locked up DA during the week as Cam's back up for the next 4 years?

Yea, i understand that, thats why i would have ditched AJ and kept Glanton. It was one or the other.

Gettleman hates getting rid of his draft pick though, AJ was one of his and Glanton was a FA.

Soo I read something about "we won't get compensation for Hardy because we signed more free agents than we lost" so that included Todman, Trusnik etc... I'm wondering if these moves were made so that we can now get compensation for Hardy? Does it work like that? Basically we've lost Hardy and Byron Bell, and gained Kurt Coleman so we're now eligible. Is that right?

I wouldn't be surprised if we see Todman/Trusnik eventually picked after their "veteran salaries" are waived. I really liked Wegher though so glad to see him hanging around at least.

I really wanted us to keep Redden, I thought he was great all pre season. Hopefully he gets on the practice squad at least. I think the two guys I am most bummed about losing is Redden and Cox.

GG, would know, surely?

All i know was it went off salary and total games played.

If the original Hardy suspension stood we would have been ineligible, but with the reduction (10 games required for compo i think) and his salary we are looking at a 3rd round pick IIRC, not too shabby.

I would totally understand the cuts if what you mention above is part of the deal. Give me a 3rd rounder over Boykin, Todman etc etc..

Haven't mentioned him yet, but glad we kept Coleman, had a very impressive camp/pre season. More than just the ST player we were expecting. :thumbsu:

A great read, we already know what a tireless worker and tremendous leader Luke is, but its great to hear his teammates genuinely happy for him about the contract he has been given and deserves. :thumbsu:

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Luke Kuechly’s life didn’t change Thursday.

With reports swirling that he’d agreed to a five-year, $62 million contract that will make him the highest-paid middle linebacker in NFL history, Kuechly was focused totally on the Carolina Panthers’ Sunday opener at Jacksonville.

That he wouldn’t discuss anything other than the Jaguars was in part because the deal hasn’t been signed, but mostly because that’s who he is.

Kuechly eats, sleeps and lives football arguably more than any player in the NFL. His favorite part of the week other than game day is picking up chicken pad Thai and bringing it to Bank of America Stadium to watch film.

Mention that he’s had more tackles (473) than any player in the NFL since the Panthers made him the ninth pick of the 2012 draft and he’ll tell you about his weaknesses.

But his weaknesses are like an A-plus student getting an A on an exam.

Kuechly is worth every penny of what he’ll get paid. It’s no coincidence that the Panthers have ranked among the top 10 defenses in the NFL since he arrived.

It’s no coincidence that when Carolina finished second in the NFL in total defense behind Seattle in 2013 that Kuechly was named the NFL’s Defensive Player of the Year.

Again, Kuechly downplays his role. He’s not even sure where the award is, other than at his parent’s home in Cincinnati.

To know the two-time Pro Bowl linebacker's real value is to talk to his teammates and coaches. They can’t put a price on his value to the team.

“You can’t," outside linebacker Thomas Davis said. “It’s one of those things when you look at what Tom Brady does for the Patriots, that’s Luke to us.

“To me, he deserves to be the highest-paid defensive player in the NFL for what he’s capable of doing and what he has done."

There isn’t an ounce of jealousy or envy in Davis’ body when he says this.

“I get to personally watch this dude work day in and day out," he said. “So I can say that and truly mean it and understand what he brings to this defense, what he’s done for this league since he’s been here.

“And he’s one of the nicest guys you ever want to meet. And he’s been that way since Day 1 and I don’t expect him to change."

Neither does outside linebacker A.J. Klein.

“He’s the best player and the best linebacker in the NFL for a reason," he said. “Day in and day out, the hardest-working guy in this building.

“Obviously, his athletic ability on the field is something that is unmatched throughout the NFL at the linebacker position."

Defensive coordinator Sean McDermott calls Kuechly the “servant leader we look for."

“I would be hard-pressed to find a guy, if that were the case, that would handle it any better than Luke would," he said of a large contract. “A class young man. He’s been raised the right way by his parents.

“On a day-to-day basis he models that around here. He’s a leader by example."

Carolina offensive players recognize Kuechly’s value as well.

“Luke Kuechly, besides a football player, he’s a tremendous person," running back Jonathan Stewart said. “You don’t get to be around many guys like that.

“He’s got a gift, not just on the football field."

And Stewart doesn’t expect money to change that.

“He is going to be the most consistent person you know," he said. “And that’s why he’s such a good football player."

Carolina cornerback Charles Tillman, who played with middle linebacker Brian Urlacher at his best in Chicago, says Kuechly is “the same, if not better."

He doesn’t get an argument from Carolina coach Ron Rivera, who coached Urlacher and played at Chicago with one of the all-time great linebackers in Mike Singletary.

“Luke has one of the best first steps I've ever seen," Rivera said.

The one thing about Kuechly that has surprised Rivera is “his complete command of what we do."

“When you find a guy like that, that’s pretty special and you want to keep him around," he said.

A five-year extension would assure that.

Our offense looks exactly as advertised, terrible. Our defense though, amazing stuff. We are going to need them more than ever this season.

Luke Keuchly concussed is a huge blow. Hope he is ok.

He was clearly groggy, stumbling around everywhere, was good to see how well the D played with him off the field nonetheless.

Josh Norman :hearts::hearts:

Addison was awesome in the 2nd half pass rushing.

Cam just has absolutely no one to throw to, it was very sad to watch.

Gettleman's penny pinching roster strategy regarding all things DB's has me worried. While i agreed with letting Mutterlyn walk two season's ago you can't do the same with Josh Norman, he's a real deal shutdown corner, pay the man please.

It just depends on how much $$ he wants and if he wants to stay for less. He will get huge offers because there is a high demand for good cornerback s

He's worth every penny. We finally have a good corner, you can't let him walk out the door. Our DL is injury prone as hell, we need to maintain a good secondary to counter this.

Penny pinch on safeties and a corner opposite Josh, but i want Benewickre and Norman locked up.

We've got Short and Starr off contract next year as well. It's about juggling the cap.

Star's injuries worry me the most. Ill be pissed if we sign him to a big deal and they keep happening, i would let him walk (before Josh) if he is offered a big deal somewhere else and look for a run blocking NT in the draft next year in the 1st or 2nd round (with a WR of course). Happy to re-sign Short assuming he makes it through the rest of the year unscathed.

Im pretty sure Charles Johnson's big cap hit comes off or down next year though.

We need pass rush or OT in the first round next year. Without a doubt.

Gettleman isn't a draft a OT high guy, never will be, if he was he would have drafted one this year so you can forget that.
