VFL Casey Demons VFL 2023 Season

Mitch Hannan a great case study of a very good player at VFL level and a completely ‘meh’ player at AFL level. He kicked his second goal which was a beauty.

Casey a bit sloppy in the third quarter so far.

Casey 5.10.40 Footscray 6.2.38

Adams gave up a free kick which is converted by Footscray. He’s struggled today.

Now Schache is relief rucking.

Jefferson marks on the lead at 50, kicks deep and a holding free to JVR in the goal square. Kicks the goal.

Geez Schache is getting monstered physically today. Not a great sign.

Moniz-Wakefield kicks a nice goal from a forward stoppage.

Getting Jack Watts vibes with Schache. Great judgement, great skills, but any body contact is destroying him.

Mate, I'll take Jack Watts in our team any day.

Joel Smith has been quite good as a tallish leading forward who is effective at ground level too.

Jordon has been really quiet compared to the first half.

Nice ground level work from JVR, ball gets to Moniz-Wakefield who finds Seston with a strong mark hitting the ball hard. Seston kicks his second in a couple of minutes.

Casey up 65-45.

Hibberd has been very consistent. Jordon dropped off but Dunstan picked up the slack. All of Melbourne’s forwards have had some nice moments but none of them have been a consistent threat.

Howes has been pretty good too.

Jordon hits the post after Seston hit him with a nice short pass.

For a mid Jordon has found himself ahead of play in the attacking 50 a bit. He might have played more half forward in the second half.

Jordon and Laurie starting in the centre square with JVR rucking. Laurie won the ball, Jordon had run very hard forward and had a running shot.

Missed, Jefferson got away with a bit of a push and then missed his shot.

Seston intercepted a kick and ran in for an easy goal, his third.

I’m not sure if it will translate to AFL level but JVR very influential as relief ruck. Not in the ruck contests, but ground level and marking a kick behind play as well as a target up the ground. He has done far, far more relief ruck than Schache.

Moniz-Wakefield roves for his third goal.

85-55
