Its dissapointing to see Yea, Alex and Thorton-Eildon in this situation. The small towns rely on their local footy clubs.

Doona - do you know what Yea has planned, do they have any idea's or plans on what they are going to do? Are they going to appeal the decision to the VCFL? Can they do that?

Where will the yea blokes play?

Any players good enough for GV? Firsts or seconds? (anyone is good enough for GV seconds if i can get a game!!)

Can confirm 100% having just read a VCFL statement signed by Worksafe VCFL's C.E.O. Glenn Scott indicating the following.

Yea and Violet Town into the KDFL
Rumbalara into the Murray FL
Shepp East & Dookie into the PDFL

Whilst it does put to bed some worries for the above clubs re: appointments, recruiting, sponsorship etc. it doesn't appear good for Alexandra and Thornton.
They can appeal, but the appeal is chaired again by the VCFL say it appears that would be a waste. Expect both to be shoved into the Yarra Valley Mountain DFL, but not necessarily means they will play. Still some banter that one or either club may be forced into recess - lets hope that this aint the case.

So she's all system's go, like it not Yea is in, now to find the $$$ to match Girgarre, Merrigum and the likes!!!

Some good news after our gloomy footy chat saturday there mate, just had it confirmed we are definately in the KDFL from 2006 until the re-shuffle of country footy takes place.

With that in mind, the players were spoke about just may be off the table for now, or at least until trade week, so we can see where our list is at.

Spoke with Webby Saturday after I seen you, said he was hoping to meet with Coxy this week, and if he misses out on a VFL gig Im confident he'll be a Lion in 2006.

true, but in their present shape both thornton and alex ould sh#@t all over bdfl clubs. no junior comps and a poor netball set up might deter them

Doona
Are does this mean you are now able to inform us on who you are trying to recruit or even who you will retain the services of for 06.
A rumour doing the rounds is that your ruck is being sought after to coach the lions 18s or reserves?
Can you confirm the rumour that C.Leatham is moving on next year?

From what I have seen of late, they seem to use a hat and team names to decide who goes where - Thornton-Eildon to travel to Deniliquin for a footy game - gee-zus!

Well considering we only had it confirmed yesterday where we are playing, our hands have been tied on how to approach our recruiting. Myelf and fellow coach Neilson spoke with president yesterday and have begun to contact this season's list.

Haven't spoke to Jono for a week or so, did indicate he was retiring, then hinted he might be pursuaded to go once more. Whatever happens it was an honour to have Jono involved at Yea in 2005, we hope to god we can get him back again, but he'd be an asset to whoever gets his services.

Chris Leatham has knocked back money for years, even had a Broadford parent in his ear at our own presentation night believe it or not. He took a pay cut this year in order to play in another flag. Runs a business locally and would be very surprised if the reigning B & F plays anywhere but Yea.

Doona trust me you wont have to worry about Gig and Merrigum's $$'s if you are wanting to win back to back flags, they wont be playing off. Stanhope, Rushworth, Lancaster and yourselves will fight it out for supremacy in 2006. Girgarre need 19 of their 21 replaced if they want to play off, and if they have there $40-$60 grand maybe they will do that(have offered Rushworth's Troy Snelson $450 a game on top of Canavans $15G and whatever White is on as AC) but I doubt it, and Merrigum need about 15, they have a couple of good young players coming through that will help them a little. There best player Josh Stammers will be fighting back offers also so they may lose him.

Played at Tatura yeah??? Surely if they're going to be big improvers he'd head back to the kennel hey? Saw him play vs Seymour a few times and he goes good.

yeah, gotta agree with hank here. merrigum and gig have had money the last couple of years, admittedly not as much as they're said to have this year but they struggle to get recruits.

thats him, has been talking of not playing and working on weekends next year. but i wouldn't be surprised if he goes back to tat. he was by far merrigums best player this year and apart from him and his best barnett they really struggled for top players.

Lions return Kirkpatrick to senior job

October 20 2005
Shepparton News

One of Kyabram District Football League's new teams, Violet Town, has already organised its senior coaching position for next season.
Darren Kirkpatrick has been reappointed for a consecutive season as playing coach.

The former Colbinabbin player featured in three premiership teams at the Grasshoppers and in a Brisbane league before joining the Lions last season.

Club president Gary Abley said the reserves and thirds coaching positions had not yet been organised.

Abley said with the KDFL not having fourths, Violet Town's previous fourths players would join competitions including Benalla and Euroa teams.

Most go to school in those two centres.

Abley said the Violet Town under-17s would step up to under-18s in the KDFL.

The club's annual meeting will be on November 10.

Topics will include arrangements to compete in the new league.

Alexandra to keep fighting against going over the hills

Alexandra Football-Netball Club still feels it has no future in the Yarra ValleyMountain District Football League.
The town is getting behind the Rebels in trying to keep north of the ranges between the Murrindindi headquarters and the Yarra Valley.

Club president Ray Steyger said two meetings had taken place in the town to discuss the Victorian Country Football League's decision that the club go to theYV-MDFL.

One was a football-netball committee meeting and the other a meeting with the Alexandra Traders Association.

Steyger said the club still had very strong support from the community to "keep us on this side of the hill".

The Alexandra action this week followed strong statements by both Steyger and VCFL chief Glenn Scott on the matter in the past week.

Steyger distributed an email giving his version of the state of the Goulburn-Murray investigation process, which was strongly critical of the situation.

Scott's response said: "The board reject and are disappointed with the content of the email and in particular that the matter is in turmoil throughout the Goulburn-Murray region and that the best solution is that the Central Goulburn be retained, rehashing the process and promoting any perceived imperfections with the process is not in the past."

Scott went on to say the CGFL would not be reformed.

He said the VCFL supported the Alexandra and Thornton-Eildon clubs' efforts to meet with the Kyabram District Football League executive and in turn the clubs.

"Unfortunately now all avenues have been explored and the VCFL board wish to emphatically state that the only option remaining is for both clubs to affiliate with the YVMDFL," Scott said.

He said the VCFL and its board recognised there were challenges ahead and pledged the full support of the VCFL, Netball Victoria, the YV-MDFL management and clubs and Seymour Junior Football League.

Is anyone happy with the GoulburnMurray football restructure?
A preliminary notice and nomination dated March 8, 2005, was circulated by John O'Donohue, WorkSafe VCFL north-east area manager, regarding the establishment of an investigative committee into the composition of football in the GoulburnMurray region.

The notice went on to say the investigation committee would explore the medium and long-term future composition of football in the region, based on local opinion and local knowledge.

After the first meeting of the GoulburnMurray investigation committee, O'Donohue stated the committee has not been convened to identify solutions or make recommendations, rather gather information in this the initial stage.

O'Donohue's media release in late July repeated that it has never been the intention of the investigation to make recommendations or give direction to clubs and leagues, but rather examine the medium and longterm future composition of football in the region based on local opinion and knowledge.

O'Donohue's memo to all GoulburnMurray region clubs dated August 24 states it has been the intention - as indicated to all concerned parties throughout - to draw to a conclusion and resolution by the end of August, of which we are on schedule.

It is appropriate to inform all clubs that a resolution has been established.

The memo goes on to say that this will result in the demise of the Central Goulburn Football League with the three most southern CGFL clubs to be accommodated in the Goulburn-Murray region.

It is history now that the investigation committee's resolution was rolled out on August 29 at the Barooga Sports Club.

The Goulburn-Murray region was thrown into turmoil as the football world reacted with a tidal wave of emotion spread through every town and community.

A subsequent epidemic of NIMBY (Not In My Back Yard) caused clubs and leagues to slam their doors shut to reinforce the collective refusal to consider any change that may impact on them in any way.

So, where to from here?

The five leagues in the region are all impacted in some way or another: the Murray Football League has appealed against the inclusion of Rumbalara, the Picola District Football League are appealing against the restructure resolution, the Kyabram District Football League has voted to accept Violet Town but voted against the inclusion of Alexandra, Thornton-Eildon and Yea, the Goulburn Valley Football League awaits the outcomes patiently, and the CGFL is to be disbanded.

The WorkSafe VCFL has also identified possible future movement in the Coreen Football League that could impact on the Picola District Football League, some initial progress with the emergence of a new league in the Echuca region that could impact on neighbouring leagues, and possible future needs for a southern league that may incorporate clubs such as Broadford and Kilmore that could impact on the KDFL.

The climate of the Goulburn-Murray region could be described as stormy, but has been subject to change at short notice during the whole investigation process; the WorkSafe VCFL hierarchy is now left with the unenviable task of trying to find some solution that can be acceptable to the majority of clubs and leagues in the region.

Is it possible that with the current attitudes to the suggested restructure and the potential for further change in the near future, that the solution could be to leave things as they are for the present, with a refreshed look by an independent review panel over the next 12 to 18 months?

It should be argued that change should not occur just for the sake of change, with clubs and leagues opposed if it is seen that the process could be repeated again within a couple of years.

It is not too late to put the current restructure proposals on hold pending future developments of other leagues.

The WorkSafe VCFL can still give life to the CGFL - it has not been buried yet.

We wait to see what happens.

Ray Steyger, Alexandra Football-Netball Club president and CGFL senior vicepresident

Spoke with the ruckman in question when he called into work today, Seymour haven't mentioned a thirds gig to him, and I doubt he'd do it the way he was talking. The Lions are keen to get him onbaord as a ruck type coach, but again the current ruckman has won a Morrison Medal so Jono feels he fairly capable. Bounced the idea of a round 7-8 kick off and a quiet forward pocket role - but we'll discuss it at our December Xmas BBQ and then well into 2006 after he becomes a dad. Still think retirement is the raging favourite besides he don't wanna be hassled in October

Alexandra firm on its rebellious standing

Alexandra Football Club will appeal to the Victorian Country Football League in a second attempt to join Kyabram District Football League.
A club meeting on Friday night decided to pursue the appeal process.

The meeting was attended by about 50 people - footballers and netballers, coaches, officials, club and women's committee, sponsors and supporters.

"Everyone was very positive about finding a league which fitted in with the structure of the club, which has four football and five netball teams," president Ray Steyger said yesterday.

"Members felt that the Goulburn-Murray Region is where we need to stay.

"All the facts were put to the meeting about the Kyabram District League process, the Yarra Valley-Mountain District league, the rules and the costs of an appeal.

"The club formed a subcommittee of 11 people to prepare the appeal brief, raise funds for the appeal and make the best effort possible."

The meeting lasted 21/2 hours.

The appeal will be submitted this week.

Under VCFL rules, the VCFL will consider a written submission, but Alexandra will not be able to give verbal evidence.

The KDFL decided on October 12 to admit Violet Town from the Central Goulburn league, but to reject applications by Alexandra and Thornton-Eildon to join.

The appeal will cost $500, which is non-returnable, plus $1500, which might be returned at the discretion of the VCFL.

It was a busy week for the Rebels, with a committee meeting on Monday and a meeting with the Alexandra traders on Wednesday.

The VCFL recently told Alexandra and ThorntonEildon they would be playing in the Yarra ValleyMountain District League in 2006.

n Meanwhile, ThorntonEildon will have a full club meeting of members and players this Friday night to discuss the future.

Secretary Peter Grant said the club was fairly restricted about where it could go.

Grant said if the club appealed against the KDFL decision, the appeal would go to the VCFL, which wanted it in the YV-MDFL.

He said the club had been told there could be up to eight under-l8 teams in the YV-MDFL second division, but this division had only three teams in under-18 last year.

There was only one grade of netball in the YV-MDL last season, but the VCFL says there will be a second grade in 2006.

Doona,

This forum is well worth a read over considering the recent conversation around leagues.

And now we're back to square one!

With Ardmona being banished, Broadford wanting to move north to the KDFL, Katandra in limbo within a league that's too strong for them & the southern clubs in Yea, Alexandra & Thornton/Eildon occupying the foot of their respective leagues. the need for a Seymour based league is obvious.

Or even a reformed Tungamah League, run under the administration of the Murray FL (which would have been a good idea, if there was more support for it).

All the leagues here are lob sided, sadly it's only going to get worse, unless drastic changes are made.

That league was called the Waranga North East League but it folded in the 1970's, clubs who played in it at one stage included:-
Seymour
Avenel
Yea
Broadford
Euroa
Longwood
Alexandra
Mansfield
Thornton Eildon

Most leagues in Victoria need reconfiguration but does AFL Victoria have the balls to do it?
