How does he sound like Nathan Brown?
No.Originally posted by Isdogisgood
I know the draft is a while away yet but is anyone else worried that the club hasn't offically made announcement about who we are going to pick?
Yes he had bad hair as well.Originally posted by scooter600x
It's almost scary how much he sounds like Nathan Brown when he was drafted.

Can we possibly expect to have cooney playing well from round 1, AND get Rawlings, AND get a fantastic season from Granty at CHB?

"People think he is a bit of a ratbag"
"with a self-confessed hatred of anything scholastic"
"his laid-back attitude"
And somehow, if he does turn out to be a star, we have to hope he doesn't follow too closely in Browny's footsteps in a few years time.Originally posted by stefoid
These big wraps are making me nervous. As a bulldog supporter its almost like too much to hope on the kid to be our own version of nathan buckley. Can we possibly expect to have cooney playing well from round 1, AND get Rawlings, AND get a fantastic season from Granty at CHB?

Add to that stunning speed and balance once likened to cartoon character Roadrunner -- perfectly aware of when the Wylie Coyotes of the football world are about to pounce and with the acceleration to burn them off.

The other thing about him is his pace - exhilarating. One of the highlights of the carnival was when Cooney just burst free of a pack and was running towards goal. Sensing he was about to be caught, he simply accelerated like the Road Runner leaving Wile E Coyote and then kicked a goal from 50 metres.

Based on last years coaching effort, Rhode will probably play Cooney at Full Forward...

Put this into Media Watch on the ABC
David Marr, who works for the Sydney Morning Herald, would have a field day with this.

Back to Cooney, you would hope Rohde does play him Round 1, and perhaps on a flank to take the heat off him a bit. He will be targeted early on by opposition players.
A lot of people on the draft forum seem to be in denial over Clarke's talent. Most of them have him slotting into the Saints to be with his brother but he has some strong claims to go a fair bit earlier than that. I have previously stated that this fascination for joining brothers at a club is nothing more than a nonsense and if we deem Clarke to be the best available then we should consider him.Originally posted by The Doctor
Cooney would slot beautifully onto a half forward flank at the Dogs.
He would have a combination of Darcy, Rawlings and Bandy to take the big guys. Brad Johnson to take the best mid sized defender. We will have a specialist crumber in Gia, Gilbee, Faulkner or Garlick buzzing about the big guys leaving Cooney to take a half forward line position on one of the lesser defenders. A good way to bring him in. You can almost build a case for Raph Clarke here to work in tandem with that lot as well couldn't you .

He is of a good size and could develop into a 3rd tall defender or forward and he has a good burst of pace. He could also just slot into the team on a wing or as midfielder such is his versatility.
He makes some errors with his decision making at times however, it is more to do with his enthusiasm than necessarily making poor choices. I saw him twice before the carnival and was suitably impressed. One game at Vic Park was a real gem.
I would give him strong consideration.
He is a very talented player that everyone rated highly in 2002 however, after a few negative comments on BF he all of a sudden became damaged goods. I am glad you saw those game as well early in the season because too often people tend to write players off after one bad game. That is why I think it is ideal to see a junior player at least 4 times before you really want to write him off or claim him as a cant miss player.Originally posted by GOALden Hawk
Thank God - I'm not the only one!
I saw him in that game at Vic Park (against Gippsland?) and he was excellent, spent a lot more time on the ball. Then in the Challenge Cup at Princes Park he was even better for mine.
The only thing that will hold Clarke back is his attitude - but if he goes after pick 6 think of me getting upset somewhere, that was the pick Hawthorn gave away as part of the Jacobs deal.
