Cooney to play this weekend

The really sad part. If he was a champion racehorse...

....they'd put him out to stud and he'd die many years later a happy, happy horse.

I think pre-season 2013 is make or break for Coons. He needs to either complete 90-95% of the pre-season or retire. He has had 2 on-again/off-again years (mostly off-again) and it isn't fair for the team, us supporters and most importantly Adam himself to continue like this. Playing off half back doesn't seem to be an option and the only other option as a mid-sized forward hasn't seemed to work. The days of playing in the midfield on limited preparation are long gone. He needs to either have a fair dinkum crack at getting fit (and deal with whatever consequences may come out of that) or retire. Managing him through a season hasn't worked. It is very sad that it has come to this but it is sadder seeing one of the true greats of our club being treated as irrelevent.

Would of preferred him to of been given the rest of the season off to try and get in good condition for next year. If he comes in for anyone other then DJ, Sherman or Hooper I will be angry though.

I think he should play like 80-20 in the forward line for say 2 weeks play as the sub one week and rest another week, just to manage him through the season

He is good enough to kick his 2-3 goals every week

Personally would rather see him out of the side till 2013, to get his body right, or at least better than his current situation.

Can't fault the guy for wanting to get out there.

The issue is not just the game but apparently he hardly trains so how can he build a base of fitness and develop confidence in his knee. Resting hasn't allowed him to regain anywhere near his best form. Prior to his injury he was one of our best shots on goal but now he cannot make the distance from 45 metres out and sprays them so hiding him in the forward line is not a good option.

I agree with an earlier poster 2013 preseason will be make or break for Coons. I hope he makes it but I have grave fears that he won't.

Maybe he can become our permanent super sub?? Play him for half a game each week??

This thought had also crossed my mind. It wouldn't surprise me to see the sub become more of a specialist role for some clubs and maybe Cooney's situation might push us in this direction???

he did that this season yet still had trouble staying fit.
