I think a change is coming that will see the rubicon for eligibility shift again.. perhaps back closer to R1 or top20 ...maybe even a tweak to the discount. I doubt discount is needed for top end talent but I can understand the logic of it if you have put in years of development. I have not seen the kid play bar the odd glimpse... but one haas to say, if he mirrors so many other kids with a Sudanese genetic background then we are looking at a high end athletic player. If he has the height of someone like Blitz then we many still be in trouble. Melb lost out on Mac Andrew like that.

Had BR jumping 98 in one of the test. Cant find any real info on his height ... the 2025 thread has him listed as 190cm 12 months ago.

The issue is that the AFL have changed the rules before so who knows if we can get him.

Remember the Jamara fiasco. He should be playing for us but after investing in him for years the AFL shifted our region boundary.

Its hard to say for sure bc the cap going up affects the FA compo bands.
But 750k is probably band 2 (ie pick 19 bf compos) whereas you would need over 800k a year for 5 years to trigger band 1 i think (if we finish top 4 the differencd between band 1 and 2 is only like 4 picks anyway).

I think we will go to 700k for Stengle. Probably for 3 years with a 1 yr trigger option. I reckon he'd stay for that too.

I just can't see him going back to SA, a Melbourne club or a Sydney club imho. He just doesn't strike me as a big city type of person. So where does that leave him? Maybe a Brisbane, WCE or Freo then; and I'm just not sure he will go there also...

I only rate him a less than 15% chance of leaving.

Small forwards of Stengles ability are huge in the modern game. We will be very damaged structurally without him.

Just get him signed and locked away

With the way the cap is expanding ..who knows what they will say.

My guess is end of r1 will be the best we get offered.

800k would have been band 1 under previous caps. It isn't now and wouldn't be band 1

I don't know, guess cause it's outta our hands but I'd guess the club is going to match any reasonable offer. We'd be lucky to get a player of his caliber with whatever we get for him.

im sure the NGA boundary will change as soon as he hits the draftable year for us.

WE are not able to gain anything from the AFL systems in place anymore - JUH for example.

Of course only Stengle knows the answer, but with his past troubles and finding an environment that works for him. I wouldn't risk that for a few extra bucks. I'm pretty confident he's not going anywhere.

Kid we should look at as a key forward, Harry Armstrong. Plays for Haileybury. Just watched the first half of them pantsing Caulfield and he’s very impressive. Not talked about currently as a high pick but has loads of ability. Had most of last year off footy with an infection.

Correct we can't match and force a trade ala Danger and Cameron but we can match what another club is offering and hope he stays.

Most like just like normal our offer will be less and it is up to him if he wants to stay or go for maybe 10-20% more

Poor Wells imagine all the junk emails he gets from other clubs begging for tips and advice or just outright offers for services

The team should top up to service our greatest need. They will be aggressive in the market to top up as our team is well poised for another tilt.

The order of the positions we need to fill are:

KEY FORWARD
Age appears to be catching up with Hawkins. He appears to be slow, uncertain and fumbly and gives away 50's. Having said that he does ruck well in the forward line because of his bulk and skill. Great servant of the club but I fear the end is near.
Cameron roams all over the ground and does not play a key position as such.
Neale looks like he can fill that role, but can not be expected to carry the load at this stage of his development. Rohan or Neale or both MUST come into the side.
We need another more experienced forward player who can take a pack mark.
**Someone like a Jamara Ugle-Hagan should be our number one target if he is available. Pay the man.
