Pretty crap actually.
I know it's super tough, but you do have rights in a retrenchment situation. To be a genuine redundancy they must have consulted with the workforce and considered all alternatives, plus explored redeployment/reskilling if those options are available. Redundancy must be the last possible scenario and you are entitled to a package and notice period.
Hopefully it won't come to that, but if it does, let me know and I'll make sure they followed due process.

The business has been sold, so the new owners have pretty much hand picked who they want.
The employees who haven't been taken on have have been paid their redundancy in accordance with the NES and have been given a 4 week notice period.
