Possible J-name 18 next year (four to go, with three Jacks drafted):Jack Steele goes in hard dishes out the handball to Jack Newnes, Jack Newnes coughs it up in a tackle but Jack Steven is there to clean it up. Jack Steven goes wide to Jack Billings who spots Jack Lonie short in the pocket. Jack Lonie going back for the set shot, at the last minute pulls the kick to an open Jack Sinclair right in front of goal 30 out.
With White playing in defence in round 23 Gilbo was moved back into the guts and was solid there again, so he's another genuine option (for the time-being, as is Roo of course) and D-Mac also had a real purple-patch once he was moved into the guts in that game, so it will be interesting to see if we give him more of a go in there over the preseason and next year. He has the toughness, hardness and courage for that role and seems very willing to get in-and-under, but also has the agility and breakaway speed that we could do with more of in there. What a beast.

If we want to get 3 picks in the first 30 methinks that we may have to give a bit to get a bit. Let's look at other clubs and their situation
Brisbane will have 1 academy selection and have delisted 6 players & have 5 picks up to 48 (inc PP). So it is likely they will be looking to draft in existing players or swap pick 2 for picks say 6 & 8 with GCS but by doing so they let GCS into first go at the academy selection and I reckon is unlikely. GCS will have it seems 4,6,8,16,22,23,25,28 and have delisted 2 & moved on O'Mera and Prestia. They will have to let 4 more players go or burn picks in the 20s....unlikely
The only team that I reckon is in a similar position to us is Norf, they have delisted 4 aging champs and they need picks.....like us in the 20s. Our idea of swapping pick 10 for 2 possibly 3 picks in the 20s will be an identical strategy to Norf with pick 11, we will both keep each other honest at the negotiating table.
So give a bit to get a bit....Webster is a good player for our club but we have the emerging White, Rice, DMac, along with Gilbert, Wrighty and Newnes all able to play HBF roles probably surplus and we need more mids! Same with Minchington 13 games this year means that he is AFL standard player, Webster 11 (injured) 50 afl games overall, you can make a case why they would fit into another team. I can see any of these along with Temples & even Sincs being a great addition to Brisbane and to a lesser extent GCS. AFL standard players needing more opportunitiy, we do not have enough spots Bris do!!
So trade with GCS pick 10 (as there is not much difference according to Ameet after pick 6-8) for 16 & 24. Pick 20 for J Web & Minch with Bris.
Steele next year's second with GWS seems the consensus
16,20,24,47 & Steele for Delaney, Curren, J Web, Minch & probably Murdoch (as he is the same player type as Steele) delisted or traded. Keep Lee & Shents for versatility. Chips onto rookie list replaced by Holmes.
Steel in French is Acier, so maybe he gets the nickname Ace?
Ace to Maverick, bullet pass straight to Hot Dog Lonie in the pocket!
Ice Man thankfully not part of this team.
People were talking of giving up first rounders for him. He's like Jamie Cripps to me second round pick is more than generous and we don't have this years.Call it pick 47 and you've got a deal.
Preserve next year's second if at all possible.

You are spot on with Ward. I was thinking the same thing as I was watching. Not sure he does, but a lot of that comes down to sheer competitiveness. Both Ward and Lenny have quite a lot of skill / class that could go unnoticed. A couple of pieces showed he has a touch of that, but hopefully he's a guy that really gets a roll in with a bit of confidence and consistency through the midfield.Because I am a classic uni student and love a bit of procrastination, I decided to watch the GWS v. Hawthorn game. A few notes;
There are about 18 other blokes from GWS I would love on our list apart from Steele.
Rhys Palmer is not one of them.
Ward is a weapon of a player, hopefully Steele can turn out like him in playing style and not just hairstyle.
Does his best work in close, finds a way to get a handball off because he is so strong in the tackle and he is pretty zippy when given space. In a few preseasons, he will be even harder to bring down, and will be a bull for us in the coal face. A pretty solid tackler as well.
Not a whole lot to note on his outside game but was apart of a few nice handball chains and definitely works hard to create space, so something to work with.
PGTfOJust quietly his sister is a real stunner too. Great genes.
