Traded James Aish (2013-2015)

its true, if the longer someone doesn't sign a contract the more likely he is to leave in the future.

on the other hand he if he signs a contract earlier he is less likely to be leaving
I agree, this is a fairly accurate/proven general rule - but as we are all well aware many rules are also accompanied by a notation that is, the exception that proves a 'general' rule. ;)

Everything I read about Aish indicates he is a fine young man. I am very bullish about his future as a footballer and I hope that future is with the Lions.

What does pi$$ me of if that every article on Aish tells me that his uncle used to be someone who did something in South Australia. For FS every player we recruit from interstate has a relative who did something somewhere. Yet most of them sign on for the longer term.

From what I read on Aish, he doesn't appear to have a sense of entitlement because of what his uncle did. And I suspect that he might want to make his own reputation in his own way. This is one reason why I am inclined to believe he might sign with us.

I agree with carnthemlions - "Unlike Boyd, Aish is far from unique".

Good midfielders are relatively easy to come by - what is important is that the club has a large group of good midfielders (which we are well on the way to achieving). As good as Aish might become, he is replaceable and I don't want him to remain a Lion unless he buys into the team.
Was meant more in the sense that other teams won't be offering him a huge contract.
Reckon there is serious Des Headland potential if he goes home. We have the midfield environment for him to thrive. He will be second in line for a tag at Adelaide, first if Dangerfield leaves.
I think Sloane and Brad Crouch would have something to say about that.

Yes but I would imagine they would die of grief.

Don't see any reason why Aish won't stay, nothing has been said that indicates he wants to leave. Not wanting to sign on long term to a club in your first season doesn't exactly spell 'i want out'. Maybe after round 15 or 16 next year would be the time to worry.

Knowing the Aish family as I do, I would think there would be no real desire for James to play for Crows or Power. I think the only issue, or reason for him wanting to return to Adelaide would be the ill health of his Grandfather Peter who is suffering from Alzheimer's Disease.

As you said, he is a quality young man.

I went to like your post them realised it could be interpreted as liking the fact his Grandfather is unwell. Thanks for your reply.

With all the opposition attention focused on the likes of Beams, Rockliff, Hanley, Rich, and Zorko, Aish will be able to have a big year next year. He should be able to average around 20 possessions per game and improve on his 2014 form which was very solid for a 1st year player. I think we will see more of his classy ball use in 2015 as he is adapted to the speed of the game now. I can't wait to see his deliveries hit the key forwards on the chest.

The young fella seems to be putting in time to socialise with the new blokes. Bundy mentioned that he had already had aishy over for dinner a number of times and now Mitch Robbo tweeted last night that he also had Aishy over. It is just good to see that he is putting in an effort and not secluding himself!!

getting warmed up for meeting an entire team full of new players.

An article on the afl website confirming adelaide's mission to lure aish back to SA, smacks of double standards ... in the same article it mentioned their desperation to stop dangerfield & sloane from doing the same thing.

i just wish he'd re-sign

Not really sure it is double standards. All part of the "list management" goal I would have thought. Retain your quality players and bring in talent from other clubs.

No different to our offseason.

Yep, not like we weren't talking to Dayne Beams despite various protestations to save face and make it look like everyone follows the rules.
