Reported on the club website that Brown is not going to Arizona, but staying home with the (club) kids because of the imminent birth of his second child.

The club is still saying that 18 players will go though.

Maybe they have decided to send Moloney in Brown's place. In some ways it is good that Browny isn't heading over; sometimes he can tend to hit the preseason too hard and peak a bit early.

When they first announced the number going it was stated that Brown wasn't going with them so if they are sending Moloney then it would be in addition. From Moloney's view spending the pre-season with Brown in the QLD heat probably isn't the worst option.

Good to see he will be around this pre-season to set the example for the new draftees, so not a total loss that he's not heading to Arizona.

'Bit of a hiccup': Brown hit by car
October 23, 2012
Phil Lutton

For most cyclists, being collected by a car would constitute a fairly major event. Jonathan Brown has described it as a 'hiccup' and promised fans to be back for day one of the AFL pre-season in a fortnight.

The Brisbane Lions captain was taken to hospital after his run-in with a car during an early morning bike ride on the Gold Coast this morning. He was released soon afterward after getting 10 stitches in his elbow and a series of scans on his head, neck and torso, all of which were fine.

Brown said he felt little worse than he would after playing a game of senior football after the incident, which sent a massive scare through the club and its fans when news first broke of the accident.

Brown was part of a group of about 20 cyclists which set off for a ride through the Tallebudgera Valley early this morning. He said he entered a roundabout when he made contact with the car, which was towed away with a deep divot in the windscreen caused by Brown’s elbow.

Brown's lucky escape
23 Oct, 2012

When news first broke that Brisbane Lions Captain Jonathan Brown had been hit by a car while riding his bike on Tuesday morning, fans had every reason to instinctively expect the worst.

After all, Brown has been on the wrong end of some rather unfortunate incidents over the past couple of years.

But thankfully he escaped with only relatively minor injuries - none of which will impact his pre-season preparations.

Speaking exclusively with LIONS TV, the three-time Club Champion said that he had pulled up well from the accident.

“I’m fine, I’ve done pretty well out of it I reckon,” Brown told LIONS TV.

Late in the 2012 pre-season, the worst possible news for all Lions fans broke via Twitter. Almost unbelievably, Jonathan Brown’s face needed repair once more after a horror collision with Matt Maguire during a training session. High hopes for the upcoming season began to fade a little, while some started wondering if the career of our inspirational skipper was drawing near its end. It seemed that the only one who knew for sure that everything would be alright was Brown himself, as he soon proved.

His delayed start to the season (not playing his first game until round three against Fremantle) was followed by an extended period of indifferent form from a man we’d all grown so used to seeing produce only the best. The retirement calls strengthened in some areas of the footy public, but his slightly worrying start to the season wasn’t without highlights. Most notably, his match against Greater Western Sydney in round eight of the season, in which he kicked five goals from twenty-three touches – a fine performance by anyone’s standards. Unfortunately for Brown, his good form in that match for the most part went unnoticed due to forward convert Daniel Merrett’s spectacular match, and questions were still being asked about how much he had left to give.

Goalless performances against Fremantle and the Western Bulldogs did little to stop the speculation, but signs of life started to return in round fourteen against Melbourne.

In a great team performance, Brown was able to kick four goals, take twelve marks, and get his hands on the ball twenty-four times – yet even more impressive than this individual performance was the consistency in his performances that followed for the rest of the season.

Late season matches against Richmond and Port Adelaide ended with Brown kicking four goals in each, while he was also able to notch up an equal season-high bag of five goals in the year’s last game against the Western Bulldogs.

Brown finished the season with forty-seven goals and, just as pleasingly, an uninterrupted run of twenty games from round three onwards. He topped the club’s goal kicking tally once again, and finished in the top five of the Merrett-Murray Medal count. He spent the majority of the season playing further up the ground than normal, and was often the linkman coming from defence into attack due to his ability to dominate marking contests all over the ground. Also, his fearless attack on the ball – now his trademark – appeared as strong as ever, with fans holding their breath many times throughout the year as he charged into a pack with eyes only for the ball. Luckily, though, he escaped injury free.

But what’s arguably more important for the club’s immediate future than any stats are able to show is that the Browny we all know and love appears back. The player who lifts the entire side just by taking his place in the team – even if he only gets a couple of kicks – has returned. With a young side trying to announce itself in the competition over the next few seasons, that influence could be vital.

Just as pleasing is the fact that retirement doesn’t seem to be in his immediate plans, with him saying in a late season press conference that as long as he's enjoying playing and the group continues to head in the right direction, he's 'keen to keep rolling’.

It would seem a given at this stage of his career that, sadly, his form will inevitably do little but decline. The chances of him winning the Coleman with an eighty goal (or more) season seem remote, and with so many quality key forwards playing in the competition at present, it would be a monumental effort for him to be considered for All Australian selection again in his playing days.

So while the end may be sadly drawing closer, both the club and Brown will be keen to delay it as long as they can. Whether he hangs up the boots in 2013, 2014, or even 2015 remains to be seen, but the longer he’s able to stick around, the better it will be for the developing Lions side.

Had a good laugh this morning...listening to SEN, Hutchy + Dr Turf, when someone said JB needs to wear a helmut and be wrapped in bubblewrap when he goes out, and that they wouldn't like to be standing beside him as you wouldn't know what was going to happen next!

p.s......thanks for the link to the above story gecko8:)

AN IRATE cycling community has lashed out at Brisbane Lions star Jonathan Brown after the AFL player refused to make a complaint to police against the driver who hit him last month. Safe Cycling Australia condemned Brown's decision "as just not good enough" and called on the high-profile athlete who was knocked off his bike on a training ride at the Gold Coast to stand up for cyclists' safety.
