Retired Leigh Montagna

ST KILDA midfielder Leigh Montagna has admitted there was an element of luck that led to the goal that sealed a thrilling two-point win over Melbourne at Etihad Stadium on Sunday night.

With Melbourne forward Jeremy Howe having just secured the lead with a set shot for goal with 40 seconds to play, the Saints were under the pump to make a final comeback.

Swooping in after Jack Steven delivered a kick into the pocket, Montagna kicked the winning goal. The Saints veteran praised Steven for his gut running in the final minute of the game. “He’d had a tough day. It doesn’t matter how your day’s been you can always have an influence later in the game," Montagna told SAINTS.com.au.

Contribute all things Joey related for 2016 in this thread!

Kinda crazy to me that Joey is 32 now, and still an elite player for us. Averaged 28.6 disposals, 5 marks, 4.8 tackles and kicked 8 goals in 17 games in season 2015.

Here's to an even better 2016 from the champion of our club!

Joey talks to former boxing champ Sam Soliman, who put the boys through a tough beach boxing session on pre-season camp in Queensland.

Congrats to Leigh on his 250th game this weekend, hopefully there's still many more to come!

Joey has been a bit up and down this year so far . He struggled for a few games but hit back hard against North and has played well since .

BT tried to find out what Joey said to Kelly but Joey wouldn't say , lol. It looked like Joey was trying to encourage Kelly to come to the Saints .

Sent via Imagination, HAL traded.

Wouldn't be surprised if Joey hangs up the boots at the end of this year. He has battled hard but has lost that yard of pace that he used to have . Will become a good coach somewhere because he has a great feel for the game . Probably will leave the Saints to be an assistant coach else where .

I severely doubt that but not saying it's the wrong move.

He has always talked about hanging around for finals. He can probably keep going at a similar level for a while to come. Believe he'll want to stay for as long as possible.

The decision will come from the club. Who I believe will elect to keep him.

Do you think so ? I don't really want him to go but it's a hard decision.
