It is with great sadness the Box Hill Football Club hear of the passing of Life Member Barbara Gibbs, awarded in 1964. Mrs Gibbs was also a Life Member of VFA/VFL.
Barbara was the wife of Ron Gibbs who was also a Life Member of Box Hill Football Club and the VFA/VFL.

The main gates at Box Hill City Oval are named after both Ron and Barbara Gibbs. The following is an extract from our web site about the gates.

"The Main Entrance Gates at Box Hill City Oval were unveiled at the annual ANZAC Day match between the Box Hill Hawks and Coburg on 25th April 2007. Named after Ron and Barbara Gibbs, the gates have become one of City Oval’s features. The official opening of the main entrance was attended by the City of Whitehorse Mayor, Councillor John Koutras and Box Hill Hawks President, Mr. John Ure".

"Ron and Barbara Gibbs have made a remarkable contribution to the Box Hill Hawks and to the local Whitehorse Community. Their combined committee service totals an astonishing 122 years. This figure alone indicates the standing with which Barbara and Ron have at Box Hill. The legacy left by the pair is one of selfless volunteer service in many areas of the clubs operations. The Box Hill Hawks are delighted to acknowledge their contribution and honour them by naming the gates ‘The Ron and Barbara Gibbs Entrance".

Despite poor health in 2012 Barbara still attended a number of Presidents Luncheons. The last match she attended was 2012 Rd 18 vs. Werribee. Unfortunately we weren’t able to get a win that day and her health prevented her attending the last home match against Coburg, which was a win.

On behalf of Box Hill Hawks Football Club we extend our deepest condolences to Loraine and her family and express our gratitude for Barbara’s decades of service to the club.
