THE AFL has opted against appealing the Tribunal's decision in the Brayden Maynard case, meaning the Collingwood defender is in the clear to play in the Magpies' preliminary final.

The AFL, having brought the charge against Maynard, said on Wednesday that it would not challenge the Tribunal's ruling, but would comment further later in the day.

"The AFL has confirmed that after careful consideration and review of the Tribunal's decision and reasons following last night's hearing into the incident involving Collingwood's Brayden Maynard and Melbourne's Angus Brayshaw, the AFL has decided not to appeal the Tribunal's decision," a statement read.

"Per the Tribunal Guidelines the AFL had to make this decision by 12:00pm AEST today.

"The AFL will release a further statement later today."
Finally some sanity 👍

Wasn’t intentional but commentators saying what can you do.

The rule is if you leave the ground and make high contact that’s your responsibility so will have to be 4 weeks unless they get Carlton’s lawyers and it’ll be 0.

What you do is use your hands to reduce the impact, not drop the shoulder on the unsuspecting player's head.

Should be severe and off to the tribunal but I assume the AFL will suddenly forget how serious head injuries are and it will be a football action.

Well for a start it wasn't forceful front on contact so shows how little you know when you didn't even bother to read the actual document

So yea thats only for contesting ground balls.

And every single offense contains this little exception

So idiots going "UH DUR STRETCHER" can go learn to read, and realise how none of the matrix has any relevance since it was thrown out before it reached it.
You forgot to bold ‘in that way’

You can tell my that de Goey free kick that the AFL love Collingwood so he won’t get nothing. Cheats and knocking a bloke out deliberately is more than fine

Correct weight, Huddo.

The people parroting Lingy's 'what else could he do' rhetoric have shown themelves to be easily misled.

Why was Maynard in the air in the first place?

Because he jumped into the air in the direction of an oncoming opponent.

It is that simple.

Ask Ziebell, he got four weeks for it back in 2012.

Four weeks was too much (especially because the precedent had not been set back then) but now, all the players know, you leave the ground, and whatever happens next is on you.
Ziebell was bracing for contact the second he left the ground, Maynard tried to smother, failed, then braced. It’s a silly comparison

If BT was commentating wrestling

"AJ Styles from the rope, What a fantastic smother attempt by AJ Styles, a great footballing act. Their was nothing wrong with that"

It's funny a player can go line up a bloke and people will scream "if this gets a suspension the game is dead" but a player jumping for a smother, of which he only missed the ball by being 10cm too far south and those same people are begging to kill off the game and ban the smother forever.

If you mean smothering Brayshaw's head with his shoulder then yes, it was a smother.

No one has an issue with Maynard going the smother.

But if your smothering technique has you turning side on, tucking the shoulder and knocking someone out cold, have a few weeks off.

Deserves about the same suspension as Rhys Stanley’s high contact on Eric mckenzie

I laugh when people repeat the same thing when players get rubbed out for last 10 years. we all know the MRO is a lottery.

  • what can he do...
  • he was going for the ball..
  • he didnt have any other options..

also isnt michael christain still the MRO guy? maynard be fine.
