Another solid snapshot video. Easily one of the most impressive updates to date, so many new terrains added to the game. They have implemented horses from the More Creatures mod, so I'm thinking some more animals will come across in the following updates/snapshots ex. Lions for Savannah biom.

Problem is they will be too far away on our current server, at least 35k or more blocks in any direction. Plus I don't think Chief wants a 10Gb minecraft file to handle

What about east and west? Of say, the -10,000Z mark?

The new biomes generate in any place we've yet to go to, so there'll be heaps of places (say, -4000 -4000 for example) which won't have been touched, and are fairly easy to get to.

For now, I have to update. I will close the main server tomorrow and get started backing up etc.

I've updated Jr to 1.6.4, now just have to update the main one. Will need to be switched off for a fair while as I back it up.

Had a good look at the new 1.7 update coming to minecraft. Spent good hour fishing, extremely fun! Found nearly all the bioms.

Not sure about the enchanting mechanics. New blocks are always nice.

I am downloading the backup in order to update.

The backup is over the max of 2GB so it is all coming down in full size. Next time I'll figure out how to do multiple zip files, but not today.

A new update is out ... I'm afraid of it. I believe from some youtube videos it's going to pretty much ruin the way our railway system functions.

Maybe some stuff is cool though, who knows.

We could also just start a new server leaving the old one running.

Would need to get Jim Boy to set up servers on another host - Ausfrag is a bit exxy if we want more servers.

how often do updates like this occur? would a new server mean abandoning the old one? Or would some stay on the old one while some start on the new one?

We've been continuing with the current server, although there are a few who support a new server (due to discovered chunks not having any of the new stuff resulting in further and further exploration to find any newly introduced goodies).

Alternatively there IS talk of having a hub server with portals to both the original and a new server, and possibly more. Chief has been looking at that.

So we're in a kind of limbo then. There should be a club for that.

Not really limbo, there is a process underway. It's just not instant.
