Mooney offered a one-match ban for striking
GEELONG forward Cameron Mooney is set to miss Friday’s clash with the Western Bulldogs after the match review panel offered him a one-match suspension.
Mooney was cited for striking North Melbourne’s Scott Thompson on Saturday and his one-game sanction cannot be reduced with an early plea because of his previous poor record.
The panel deemed the first-quarter clash to be a level two striking offence drawing 125 demerit points.The incident earned five activation points after it was assessed as reckless conduct (two points), low impact (one point) and high contact (two points).
Because Mooney has been suspended for a total of four matches over the last three years, his penalty is increased by 40 per cent to 175 demerit points.
An early plea reduces that penalty by 25 per cent, to 131.25 points and a one-match ban.
Another incident involving Mooney and North Melbourne’s Lindsay Thomas was assessed but no action was taken.
Melbourne’s Lynden Dunn, Bulldog star Adam Cooney, Carlton’s Eddie Betts and Sydney Swan Martin Mattner were all charged with making negligent contact with an umpire and can accept a $1950 fine with an early plea.
Port Adelaide’s Chad Cornes and Richmond’s Daniel Jackson were both charged with wrestling each other and have been offered a $900 fine each with an early plea.
The match day report of Essendon’s Alwyn Davey against St Kilda’s Nick Dal Santo was thrown out.
Contact between West Coast’s Shannon Hurn and the Sydney Swans’ Kieren Jack was assessed but no action was taken.
Contact between Collingwood’s Nick Maxwell and Carlton’s Mitch Robinson from the first quarter of Sunday’s match was also assessed and cleared.
