Andrew 'Buck' Rogers was a defender from South Australia who made his name at Geelong. Hailing from Port Pirie, Rogers played for Ridson in his junior days, and played 63 games for Woodville in the SANFL. He was drafted by Essendon on the back of a stellar 1987 season in which he earned the position of centre half-back in the All-Australian team, and played for South Australia in the State of Origin. But at Essendon he struggled to make the team regularly, playing only eight games in his only season for the club.

After the disappointing 1988, he moved to Geelong, where he stayed for four seasons, with his final game for the club being the 1992 Grand Final loss to West Coast. Following this, he returned to South Australia, and joined his now-merged club, Woodvillle-West Torrens. While there, he helped them to their first ever premiership in 1993, a year he also won their Best and Fairest for the first of three time (also in 1995 and 1996). He was also to take on the captaincy from 1995 until his retirement at the end of 2001. He has been inducted into the South Australian Football Hall of Fame.

Also struck it rich in 1986:

I found this from the Advertiser from either the EF or the 1SF Match Report in 1986:

Woodville centre half back Andrew Rogers in his second year of league football played like a millionaire yesterday - hardly surprising because Rogers, although not a millionaire is not struggling for a buck. Early this year Rogers, from Port Pirie and former Woodville team mate Tony Coad bought $10 worth of Instant Money tickets while in town one day to buy football boots. Their reward was $150,000, which they split equally. Many 22 year olds with such a windfall would succumb to the good life for a year or two but not Rogers. He retained his job as an electrician, did all Woodvilles' pre-season training, started in the reserves and played the season out in league from Round 9.

I remember him playing his best in State of Origin, towelling up Dermie. Didn't translate to VFL/AFL unfortunately.
Players grew an extra leg in SOO games didn't they? SA guys like Pittman and Tregenza always seemed to play way beyond their AFL form in these games. Vic guys as well though - Calthorpe winning the medal for BOG vs. SA in 94 (maybe the best game of footy I've ever seen BTW) being possibly the defining example.

Remember Rogers at Geelong but has completely forgotten he started with us. We had a lot of failures, for whatever reason, recruited from SA around this time.....Antrobus, Underwood, Werner, Sporn (to a lesser degree)...we can add Buck to the list!

P.S. really like these threads, great idea.
