Wonders and the Allies midfielder PVF is calling for a change to the selection process for captains of all the State Of Origin sides after the past week where certain teams are having to deal with in-house fighting over the captaincy of their team.


“I just think there has to be an easier way to deal with all this captaincy stuff without seeing players wanting to leave their state sides over disputes about the issue. The Allies haven’t had this drama because we all have said at the start we want Itsmyshow to be captain again after a great performance in the last series but the issues that are happening in the other sides are rather annoying when really the current finals series should be the main talking point for the league at the moment. “


“So my idea to solve this for future State Of Origin series is to place a set of rules as follows:

• No current SFA captain can captain their state side.

• A player cannot captain their state side for more than two SoO series in a row.
• Whoever makes a bid for being a captain gets judged by all SFA captains and boncer34 who will each vote for who they think is the best candidate for the job.

My reasoning for these rules to be put in place is so that more players can get the opportunity to captain a side and will give them experience for the future if they wish to one day captain their SFA side if the time comes. And with all the captains and boncer voting this will cut the chances of people pulling out the ‘bias’ card if they do not get chosen to be captain. Now there is always a chance that no-one is willing to step up to take on a captaincy role for some SoO teams but I would hope some of the younger posters around the league could see this as a great opportunity and take a chance to prove themselves.”

Not knocking Ljp, he does a great job but he's not going to be around forever.

It makes them step up and show everyone what they've got.

Sure earning it would make them improve better but it's hard for that to happen because some teams like to keep it safe and have the same captain every series because they are use to it being like that.

I mean after IMS captains this series I would love to see someone like for example saintkildaman step up in the next series and see how he goes as captain. I just think it will improve the league in the future when key members leave the league.

I Personally think the SoO captains should be named before a few cowboys make threads and everyone follows.

Once captains are decided by league admin than only they can make the team SoO thread.

I thought we were doing All Stars first anyway.

What people don't get is Gee Dub is NSW/ACT's Captain. My role is Junior Captain. Basically learning the ropes in preparation for my leadership role at the Roys.

It upsets me that people seem to think I'm glory hunting or criticising me without knowing the facts.

You do realise Itsmyshow is the Hawks captain as well don't you? The system is fine, admins have always decided captains and it is the fairest way. That way there is limited prejudice rather than having eight to ten other guys all trying to ram their opinions in too about teams they couldn't give two shits about.

I agree with PVF on some front, current SFA captains will step down at some stage, could be next week, could be seasons away, the SoO should serve as a stepping stone for young apprentices. I do however think that experience should be accompanied with that, so co captains would be ideal, one to guide the younger one. It's all well and good to say a Captain like LJP can keep doing it because he has a proven record, but how are others going to get the opportunity? Ultimately it's Boncers call anyway but I can't see why something like this couldn't be done in the future.

Agree with a lot of what you write, PVF. But Snappy makes the best point. A player walking out (or threatening to do so) because they didn't have a share in the captaincy is a little embarrassing. If you think you are a leader you certainly aren't showing it by threatening to walk out. I have been distracted by the prelim, but I think it was MD that walked out? Not his finest moment, despite making some sound points about the process.

Agree the process was a shambles with threads popping up everywhere with self-appointed captains, but I don't think Boncer had even thought about it given the finals had only just started! Some of us were still playing! Alls well that ends well I suppose.
