Sinfield an offie who was in the U-19 World Cup squad (got COVID over there so didn't play a lot), Burdon a top order batsman who bowls leg-spin.

Young keepers - either Toby Snell (same Aust World Cup squad as Sinfield), his older brother Isaiah, or from the older group maybe Tom Healy or Leigh Drennan who keeps when Jimmy Peirson is away.

Burdon is a player I will be keeping a close eye on over the next few years. Big raps on him from a lot of people around Qld Cricket. 2nd highest run scorer in last year's Premier Cricket season in what I believe was his first full season of First Grade. Disappointed to not see Tom Whitney on the Rookie contract list, thought he showed a huge amount of potential during his Under 19 World Cup stint, not a whole lot of 18 year old kids sending them down at 140-145.

On the keeping front, from what I have heard they have been keen to get Toby Snell on the rookie contract list the last few seasons but his batting hasn't come on as they have hoped, think he has found himself playing in the 2's at times.

Jack Clayton
Clayton has impressed in his short FC stint.

Bulls are too bowler heavy and look at least two batsmen short given Marnus & Ussie's absence on national duty and possibly Renshaw and Street too. What must be the most worrying aspect to selectors is all of their probable Top 6 average less than @40.

Kane Richo changing states. Interesting to see if he plays Shield as the Bulls have a strong, seasoned pace attack. Have rated Richo's red ball bowling on few occasions he has played.

Probable Shield X1: Burns, Street, Renshaw, Clayton, Heazlett, Peirson, Wildermuth, Bartlett, Neser, Steketee, Kuhnemann.

Can't see Bazley batting as high as 5, I think we will persist with Truloff one last time or maybe give Bryant a decent run. Would love to see Aryan Jain get a go to reward his consistent 2nd XI and grade form the last 3 seasons or so but we tend to be reluctant to pick from outside the contract list.

Annual Qld Bulls squad update - solid looking unit for 2023-24:

Queensland men's contracts 2023-24 Xavier Bartlett, James Bazley, Max Bryant, Hugo Burdon (R), Joe Burns, Jack Clayton, Blake Edwards, Liam Guthrie, Aryan Jain, Usman Khawaja (CA), Matthew Kuhnemann, Marnus Labuschagne (CA), Ben McDermott, Michael Neser (CA), Jimmy Peirson, Will Prestwidge (R), Matthew Renshaw, Gurinder Sandhu, Jack Sinfield (R), Mark Steketee, Bryce Street, Connor Sully, Mitch Swepson, Hugh Weibgen (R), Tom Whitney (R), Jack Wildermuth
CA = Cricket Australia contract, R = Rookie contract

Who's the backup keeper if Peirson misses?
Assume they could look at Ben McDermott as a stop-gap if short term, otherwise Leigh Drennan (Redlands) is the most experienced of the Premier 'keepers; or they may think about blooding a young one like Lachy Aitken (Gold Coast, most recent Aust U19 squad), Reuben Burger (Wynnum, Qld U19 last season), Toby Snell (Toombul, Aust U19 in 2022) or his older brother Isaiah (Wests). Good question though :)

I imagine so - Street, Lovell, Clayton (keep the UQ top three together), McDermott, Bryant . . . assume Wildermuth will be six unless they play all the bowlers and make the allrounder 12th.
I'd say Peirson 6 tbh

The QLD Bulls and the Brisbane Heat will have a new coach next season with Wade Secombe departing. While Secombe is a BBL title winning coach, the Bulls have been poor in the Sheffield Shield and Marsh Cup competitions. Secombe was told to reapply for his job and has decided to quit.

2024/25 contract list, as has been rumoured for sometime, Joe Burns has not been offered a contract and Kuhnemann is off to Tasmania. Find it weird that we have poached Straker from Victoria considering we have also given Jem Ryan a rookie contract after his incredible premier cricket season for Ipswich. The Straker signing just doesn't seem entirely necessary, unless there are family/personal reasons behind him moving to Qld? Can't recall Qld plucking an 18/19 year old from another state before.
